" An expanding nationwide protest over unwanted sexual advances reached the Us senate on Thursday, when a radio newscaster accused Al Franken, Democrat of Minnesota, of kissing and searching her without authorization during a 2006 U.S.O. scenic tour of the Center East prior to he took public office.

Mr. Franken, that has actually been pointed out as a possible presidential candidate, practically quickly launched an apology to the newscaster, Leeann Tweeden, that stated that Mr. Franken forcibly kissed her during a wedding rehearsal as well as groped her for a photo as she slept. After at first apologizing without totally recognizing her all of her complaints, he then released one more lengthier, more contrite declaration that objected to nothing." *.

Gregory Samuel Teo – Yes, but the theater/improv culture is quite different than the corporate, government or NGO culture.

Think about some of the bawdiness you see on SNL and try to imagine how that creative process is developed from idea to final skit.

These actors walk a fine line with physical satire, but those in the culture know the difference between pushing the envelope comedically and crossing the line into sexual misconduct.

I doubt this woman would feel at all offended if she had been one of the SNL crew. She probably would have found a way to pay back Franken with her own staged photo shoot.

With regards to the kiss, I strongly doubt any comedy writer/performer would view it as anything other than trying to see if it worked comedically. Actors in the comedy/improv world separate themselves from their craft and often go with outrageous stunts in order to get the laugh. It’s not a sexual thing for them even if contact is made. It’s satire.

The problem occurs when one someone from a different culture embarks on the group and/or does not clearly communicate their boundaries beforehand. They may not even realize they need to communicate those boundaries, so it truly is a case of clashing cultures as opposed to sexual assault.

I have worked in improv & theater in my younger years. When it came to scenes where kissing or even dramatic statements of love were required, I did not have the ability to separate my personal feelings from the character. Knowing this, I veered away from those roles and eventually stopped altogether. Others I know had no problem with it and progressed professionally or semi-professionally.

All to say, I think she was coming from a completely different culture and mindset. So, of course, it resulted in something awful for her.

But this is a far cry from Franken whipping out his willy, backing her into a corner, blocking access to leave, actually groping her, or propositioning a 14 year old. Those acts were clearly power plays of predatory sexual misconduct and assault.

Urrcreavesh women are not particularly mean to me. I’m just helping other men get the picture that they have more to gain by focusing exclusively on self improvement and responding ONLY to overt female sexual advances which result as a consequence of self improvement.

Actively making sexual advances or jokes toward women is a mistake. Minimizing attention toward women and eliminating the desire for female approval is in a man’s best interest.

Lift weights, focus on increasing wealth and cultivating a sense of equanimity… that is what a heterosexual, masculine male should do. Sex comes easy to a self-assured man.

It does not benefit a man to pursue women. In my experience women will let their intentions be known. There is no need to buy her a drink or spend a single unreciprocated dime in order to get laid.

Long term relationships are ill advised for a heterosexual, masculine male unless the woman is cooperative and is an asset. Marriage is always a mistake.

So Franken mimed a breast grope. If she had never seen the picture, no harm done. Nothing affecting her job, reputation, no physical contact-in the picture.
The kiss … written in the script and rehearsed. If he kissed wrong, she told him then and there she did not accept that.
Onetime saw a mime at a huge beer garden, follow women very closely behind them, matching their walk, their sway; he pushed out his chest to simulate breasts, thus ridiculing her femininity.
This got huge laughs from the 200 or so patrons in the beer hall.
I see Frankens “groping” in the same light.
My question of course, is why she brought these charges out against Franken at this time. I suspect her motives. She was at faux newz for a while.
Once upon a time, at a party a young woman stepped up to me very close, tugged on my tie and said ” You’re a big one aren’t you”. She laughed, then ‘dusted’ the front of my shirt as if for crumbs; then laughing she walked away.
I wish I could fully recall who she was. I may have a lawsuit!

He is clearly not touching her. She is apparently wearing a flak jacket. Yes, it is inappropriate! But comedic artists are different people they are looking for the next skit or joke. Your putting this at the same level as true sexual predators. Like Roy Moore preying on teenagers, & Donald Trump walking in on underaged pageant contestants, because it’s his hotel ETC.ETC.ETC… Entertainers have to kiss unattractive people-all the time. Grow some thicker skin.

I agree that Senator AL Franken is a elected Federal representative at this time
and should be held to review to his current disposition towards women and how
to behave towards them ! This event that is being publicized occurred over ten
years ago and Mr. Franken was a civilian and a comedian at the time !

roy moore when he abused, molested and raped his accusers he was a public
official within the legal system as a prosecutor of criminal offences ! Then a
state of Alabama court judge and a Alabama Supreme court Judge ! ! ! !

One has evidence, the others don’t. The Moore allegations are, like the Trump allegations were, being brought during a campaign in an attempt to thwart due process. Those are at least two big differences.

  12. Posted by Tom Ford, at Reply

Leann Tweedan isn’t a veteran. Her father was an Air Force mechanic, but she immediately began pursuing a career in modeling after graduating from high school. Graduated high school in 1991 and won the Venus International Model Search in 1992. She’s wearing the kevlar in the photo because that’s the standard wear for civilians in a war zone. She was part of the USO tour and the goal was to provide comedy for the troops through a staged skit. If Ana is going to report on these kind of stories, she ought to get her facts straight. Also wouldn’t hurt if she tried to look at context and include details such as her work with Hannity and the fact that Hannity’s friend Roger Stone tweeted about this 12 hours before it came out, or the fact that she agreed to rehearse the kiss and THEN LATER claimed it was without her consent.

She lied about the photo. If you look closely at the photo, you can see that his hands are not even touching her. Yet she said that the photo shows him groping her.

  14. Posted by MR Howard, at Reply

That’s not sexual assault. We really need to get people to realize the difference. He kissed he because they were expected to rehearse. IF she didn’t want to be a part of the show she should have told him.

He also didn’t grope her, he made a stupid joke about pretending to grope her and apologized for it. Nothing about this is sexual assault. He made a mistake and apologized move on.

    • Posted by jack lock, at Reply

He physically forced his tongue into her mouth. That’s sexual assault. He should have to register as a sexual offender.

He forced his tongue into her mouth during the rehearsal.

  15. Posted by mmarsh1972, at Reply

Can someone please explain how this is groping when he isn’t even touching her? You can see the shadow of his hand on her chest which means he’s holding his hands in the air above her breasts. Its simple physics.

Was it inappropriate?..YES. But its obvious this is a gag, he looking at the camera and smiling. Do you think if he was committing sexual assault he’d have done that..ON CAMERA, IN PUBLIC? No he shouldn’t have done it, but he has also immediately apologized and offered himself to the ethics committee…which is something nobody else has done.

Moreover, I am not completely believing Leanne version of the story. The timing is suspicious, she seems genuinely thrilled to be on camera to tell how she was “assaulted”. Compare her account to that of Beverely Young Nelson and you tell me which of them seems more believable. The one in tears? or the smiling into the camera?

I know I might sound like I am excusing him, but I know someone who was falsely accused of something similar in university and how it wrecked his life. So taking one persons word for something doesn’t pass mustard with me. So unless there is actual proof to the forced kissing allegations, (something that was in a USO skit and she agreed to) Franken should not resign.

    • Posted by John Sterling, at Reply

Not just excusing him, but you are making stuff up. Just because the picture does not clearly show his hands touching her breasts… That is like saying “Because I’ve a picture of a man in bed, that means he did not rob the bank.”

The cannibal left suck at logic.

    • Posted by mmarsh1972, at Reply

Its called common sense, something clearly lacking on the right.

Do you honestly think if he were sexual assaulting her he would do so A) in public? B) being photographed? C) smiling into the camera? What do you think the odds are a sexual predator would be that stupid?

Oh and the photographer who took the photo said it was staged…so you are flat wrong.

Your analogy makes no sense, so here’s a better one, Would a bank robber leave his name, picture, address and telephone number with the cashier after he robbed the bank?

I know you guys are desperately trying to find moral equivalence to all the perverts commonly found on the right-wing. But Franken has now apologized twice, has O’Reilly? Trump? Moore? Ailes? They are still denying it claiming they are the victims.

How that logic coming across? Comprende?
