      J. Leblanc wrong. I agree that we do practice modified socialism but it is NOTHING like living in a socialist country. I lived and was born in England and lived in several European socialist countries. Almost all industries to do with health were socialist as was all energy, schools, etc. At one point in the Netherlands taxes on the most wealthy were at 70% that means a person making 100k a year had the buying power of an American making 30k after taxes. gas right now is around 18.00 per gallon. It controls movement. American products a very heavily taxes and local equivalents are much cheaper. THAT is socialism

Americans could not afford true socialism..dr and hospitals would not be for profit and their salaries would be capped and determined by the government.

queenbeethatme100 socialism and welfarism are two totally different things. Socialism is the transitory stage between capitalism and communism.

    • Posted by Fefe Tines, at Reply

ted Alpha I understand what you are saying. Maybe you just made the point for Bernie. This county is rich enough to support these programs and even enhance them with universal healthcare and public college.

    • Posted by God is so dead., at Reply

Democratic socialism is trying to fix capitalism. You can’t fix capitalism. No matter what pretty hat you put on it, it still creates drastic inequality and literally requires the exploitation of poorest among us, not to mention the even greater exploitation of the third world. Capitalism is the problem and democratic socialism is NOT socialism.

    • Posted by Aaron Bono, at Reply

Obama was in office during a recession and recovery brought on by the Bush administration. People were doing a little better considering the recession, we were recovering (just a very little). But Obama and the Democrats are also a problem, just not near as toxic. Bernie is more of a socialist and is in the Democratic party because all we have are 2 parties. We need more choices to really resolve all this.

    • Posted by yarnpower, at Reply

Nurul Aniza Zainudin , I would amend that to stopping the wars and cutting ‘excessive’ military spending. We need a strong military but spending more on ours than the next highest spending seven countries is just stupid.

    • Posted by Luter Leko, at Reply

Nurul Aniza Zainudin Same with getting rid of tax cuts for the rich.

    • Posted by Seraph Sephiroth, at Reply

Nurul Aniza Zainudin “stop war and military spending” the US is basically the international police of the west so you can’t cut that much, a lot of wars in the middle east could be cut though.

  19. Posted by DEANOGTO, at Reply

one thing i always wonder about the ultra hyper rich is why? why do you need so much money? ive read before its near impossible to spend a billion in a life time so whats the point? do these people just have insatiable greed?

    • Posted by yarnpower, at Reply

DEANOGTO it is a form of hoarding. They are mentally unbalanced just like someone who fills their house with so much stuff they only have paths to go from room to room. Money hoarders a.k.a. Billionaires, multi Millionaires need a strong degree of Narcissism as evidenced in Trump’s behavior. They believe that they are better than other people so it is okay to rip off workers, hide their money in tax havens, etc. if it benefits their bottom line.

    • Posted by Synerrox ΰΉ€, at Reply

The genetic imperfection that is intrinsic in all humans, that’s why. Greed is the result of growing up in a wealthy society, while still having survival insticts and psycheological archetypes which are millions if not billions of years old instilled in onesself. In these people the neocortex has failed miserably, which might be the result of a bad upbringing/childhood, resulting in a general lack of empathy.

    • Posted by Synerrox ΰΉ€, at Reply

Maybe they’re also just trying to distract themselves from the existential despair which most people struggle with. I don’t think society is quite advaced enough to give us the required amount of guidance to deal with all this.

    • Posted by Sam Burns, at Reply

OCD is a factor too, perhaps, as is a profound lack of care for anyone other than themselves.

Chances are they’ve all backstabbed their fair share of individuals to the extent of financial ruin (and more thereafter) in order to accumulate their mountain of legal tender-themed toilet paper.

At this point, it appears that America’s ruling elite – corporate whores and puppet masters alike – should arguably play leading roles in what would be a faithful rendition of Bastille Day.
