" A Turkish legislative compensation has accepted draft constitutional modifications that introduce a new executive governmental system, giving Head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan a lot more powers.

The commission's nod on Friday after 9 days of dispute, leads the way for an enact parliament as well as is sustained by political leaders from the ruling Justice and also Advancement Celebration (AKP) and also the far-right Nationalist Motion Event (MHP).

Under the modifications, the prime minister's post will certainly be eliminated, while the president as well as vice president will have complete executive powers.

The payment completed approval of the draft in a marathon 17-hour session, legislative sources informed Reuters news firm.

The draft proposition permits the head of state to be a celebration member. Erdogan had to nominally tip apart as AKP leader after he was elected president in 2014, as the constitution designates the head of state as a non-partisan workplace."

Uh, what? Cenk is opposed to proportional representation? I guess he didn’t
hear about the elections they had recently in the US where the lack of
parliamentary-style proportional representation inevitably lead to lack of
representation at the ballot box and a two party duopoly.ο»Ώ

    • Posted by Jeroen Bollen, at Reply

BruceLeedar He doesn’t understand that even in a proportional system you
typically need a majority, which voids his only criticism. He’s arguing
      from ignorance.

    • Posted by Tsuroerusu, at Reply

He even did not recall that a parliamentary system need not necessarily
imply proportional representation. In the UK they use first past the post,
which is showing to be terrible for British democracy, but it is possible
to have a parliamentary system without proportional representation if one
does not like the idea of a parliament actually representing the people.

In a parliamentary system you typically also need a majority to form a
    government. Your argument is gone.ο»Ώ

    • Posted by Jeroen Bollen, at Reply

+erzan That wasn’t Cenk’s argument. His argument was that in a presidential
system, the opposition will unite and elect a better leader. He argued in a
parliamentary system, the vote would be splintered with the fundamentalists
being more likely to get the most seats in parliament. As such, they would
get to appoint an executive while only having a minority if votes. This is
untrue however, as in most parliamentary systems you need a majority, and
thus the opposition-majority will unite against the fundamentalist
      minority.

The situation in Turkey is very confusing, much worse than Cenk is letting
on. Starting really with June 2015 elections and the dismissal of those
      results.

It’s not about realistic or naivety it is about the electoral system. If
the system uses proportional representation then you will have lots of
small parties, if you have single member plurality first past the post
systems, you are likely to have 2/3 parties like the USA or UK. For
example, Israel has PR and it has dozens of small parties requiring
coalitions. The toss up is between representation and the strength of the
government. There are of course other factors which influence the number of
parties in the system but this one is the most determinative. Look up
Duverger’s Law for the original idea of this.

You have to think about it : “It`s only on Turkey” “He`s a big fan of
Russia and the way Putin handles things”. Is there such a thing as a
worldwide Media conspiracy? Could it be that it is all a disinformation
Campaign to calm the people in his country and to have them unite behind
their new Supreme Leader, for all foreign is EVIL.

IMHO your conclusions are all wrong.
The problems you’re describing aren’t with the Parliamentary system, it’s
with the particular (in this case, Turkish) mindset. Such a thing would not
happen in European or Canadian parliaments.ο»Ώ

denies it and you have to deal with it. There are also non-Turks who deny
Armenian Genocide happened. But I recognized it already. I don’t know what
more you want. Many other Turkish people recognized it as well*
