“Gun show” loophole should be called the private sale loophole. A private owner can sell to anyone.

    • Posted by Robert Neville, at Reply

w h Private sellers at gun shows are not required to do background checks where as licenced firearm dealers are required, even then the licenced dealers can just sell someone the weapon and give it to them right there while the background check is still in process, in Dylan roofs case they sold him the firearm which he used to murder those people in the church while they were still doing the background check. So yeah the gun show loophole does exist.

No, you can have a tank, artillery, etc…You guys need to educate yourselves. This is a huge problem in these conversations.
How about worrying about just enforcing current law. How many shootings occur with illegally possessed firearms? Anywhere from 3 to 11% of firearms used in crimes are legal and you want MORE LAWS? It’s baffling. You will only target the law abiding. Once current laws are enforced, I’ll talk about additional government control. Until such time, this is a loosing arguement.

    • Posted by Kevin Montrond, at Reply

This is about enforcing laws that are already in place dumbass. We know they are criminals so stop giving them guns.

    • Posted by *TheVoxOfReason*, at Reply

Kevin Montrond, It’s not…you do know what a bill in Congress is? Remember School House Rock? I spent a decade of my life enforcing these laws, far from giving criminals guns. People live in delusion that they need guns to protect themselves from tyranny when they already live under a tyranny; a tyranny which wars in dozens of nations most of them they aren’t aware of (the wars and the countries themselves no doubt) while the government spies on them, imprisons millions many over non-violent drug offenses, and gives the police paid vacations for murdering citizens over traffic stops.

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

    • Posted by Janeen Harris, at Reply

MrCrazyLeprechaun, it’s impossible to get an American gun fanatic to listen to reason. Australia occasionally still has a gun incident, rarely. Though we’ve had no mass shootings since 1996 when our gun laws were tightened up. There was 13 mass shootings in the 18 years leading up to 1996 but we learned from it. 21 years with no mass shootings made the new laws worthwhile. I don’t know what’s wrong with Americans, but something certainly is.

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

Leprechaun, compare the number of shootings between the two countries before legislation. Comparative criminology is just a touch more complex than you make it.

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

Janeen, it’s not about guns, it’s about preserving personal liberty.

    • Posted by Janeen Harris, at Reply

If you need guns to feel free then you have no freedom at all. If your personal liberty gets children shot at school then maybe you should put a bit more thought into the liberty of others. I think Americans are just too selfish to give up their fun toys that go bang. American culture is sick.

A well regulated militia of mentally deranged people

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

The militia, formerly the entire body of the people and now going to be a select group of people trained by the Federal government according to Article 1, Section 8 of this constitution, is sound policy because a militia well trained is key in adequate defense of the country. However, the people still have the right to keep and bear arms, and this redefinition of the militia should give no pretense that this right may be infringed.

There’s the long of the Second Amendment.

    • Posted by Matt Santos, at Reply

david dean Full autos have been banned since 1986 and are heavily restricted with a one year wait period, registration and $50,000 price tag attached to buying one. Also the 2A isn’t about deer hunting, but since we’re on that topic many people in Texas use full auto’s to kill feral hogs since they are an invasion and destructive species in the south that cause billions in damage and have an exploding population.

    • Posted by Matt Santos, at Reply

Robert Neville 1. Cenk Uyger admitted he would do door to door confiscation if it wasn’t for the 2A and the culture surrounding guns as well as Ben in this video proposing seizing rifles from citizens in a buyback so why don’t you stop your bullshit about nobody wanting to ban guns because that’s what they said in Australia and Britain and in Canada we’re lucky to still have our AR’s.

  14. Posted by Matt Santos, at Reply

Hey gun grabbers answer this question:
Why are ya’ll trying to ban rifles like the AR-15 when they literally only account for 2-4% of all gun deaths? And don’t give me the crap about mass shootings occurring with them because Dunblane and Virginia Tech proved that you damn well can do damage with two handguns.

    • Posted by Jeff Chang, at Reply

      “Don’t know what that is”
That is what the assault weapon ban would prohibit.

“What I do know is that if you had sensible gun laws like other western nations, that would save thousands of lives.”
As well as prohibiting guns for self defense, not being allowed to carry guns, and relying only on the cops for protection. No thanks.

“But, if your guns mean more to you than human lives, then there is no arguing with you.”
Does the ability to go faster than 50KPH mean more than all the lives lost? Can you explain to me why the general public needs to go faster that 50KPH?

And you can’t compare two different countries with differing demographics.

    • Posted by Scott Williams, at Reply

Mike C I’m from the UK, police forces are being cut and have been routinely for the past 10 years and more yet gun deaths don’t rise. It’s not just our country, it’s Australia too

    • Posted by Mike C, at Reply

Scott Williams do you guys have drug problems in the U.K.?
Drugs are now illegal in the US but we still face an epidemic.
Yet in countries like Portugal and Amsterdam where drugs
have been decriminalized there has been large reductions in
      crime and addiction.
This shows that prohibition does not work and that if there is a
demand, regardless of laws it will create a criminal market for it.
If you look at statistics we see a large spike in gun violence
      preceding such gun bans.
I am not an advocate for guns and I don’t even own any,
But I do research and the way to go is harsher sentencing for
any acts where guns are used in perpetrating a crime.
As for mass gun violence, this is only a small portion of gun
deaths and is tied to mental health issues.
The LV Shooter also had explosives that he could have used.
He could have as easily used a bomb to kill even more
      people then he had.
Anyway all this is moot as the constitution protects gun
advocates with the right to choose.
The solutions for all issues are not always bans.
Though I agree with mental health checks.
Background checks and safety courses for owners
      And anyone in their homes.
I feel there are paths we can take to address our systemic
violence and the path to a safer environment.
I just don’t feel a gun ban should be part of this.

    • Posted by Scott Williams, at Reply

Mike C No we don’t have drug problems, the reason there’s so many problems in the US is because Big Pharma pays politicians and doctors to ensure opiates are more regularly prescribed which means when prescriptions are stopped, there’s an underlying addiction in the person which results in them turning to illegal substances. Guns themselves are legal in the constitution but missiles are banned and so should automatic weapons and assault rifles be

    • Posted by Mike C, at Reply

Scott Williams ok I agree with you on the big Pharma issue but this does not
discredit my point about decriminalization causing decreases in addiction and
      violence tied to criminal markets.
Especially when my point is tied to other countries and to illegal drugs.

Whether automatic weapons should be banned is debatable.
And I may or may not be open to it if I knew it would end there.
But politicians tend to push issues to their own ends to gain public
      Approval In their political demographic.

And while this debate can go on and on I can not.
But it’s been fun debating with you.
      Have a great weekend….
