@Hanna then maybe her friends or family can help her? Why is the answer for the government to force complete strangers to pay for her bad decisions?

Currently I make 10$’s an hour no degree at the moment but on my wait to getting one

    • Posted by Daniel Delos, at Reply

It really depends where you live. 4 year BA/BS degrees don’t mean much. Even 8-10 year degrees can have trouble with employment.

In Australia, conservative governments introduced multiple social programs to help women rise their children until they turn 4 yrs old then when the mother starts working or studying when her child turn 4, the child is automatically eligible for 25 hours subsidised childcare every week.

I thought the conservatives are the ones that should encourage mothers to raise their children until a certain age.

Live in Canada and none of this would have happened,PERIOD! I had to add this after reading the comments. It appears that for some bizarre reason American citizens believe word for word what their politicians tell them and don’t bother to investigate for themselves. I have stopped visiting the U.S. even though I used to buy blue cross anytime I was in the states. It is not worth the risk of going there because an illness or an accident in the U.S. could cost in the hundreds of thousands.

    • Posted by g w, at Reply

Actually if Americans don’t buy insurance, they could go abroad for many medical services, of which the cost may be lower than the premiums and deductibles

Ororo Munroe Cant steal what was given to you by employers. If you don’t want illegals working in the states fine the employers $1 000 000 per illegal per day of work that will stop it.

It’s not like the illegal Asian ran up to you and threatened you with a knife demanding your job.

billy mott the red pill movie that featured Paul Elam, a man who said he who vote not guilty on a rape case even if there was indisputable evidence. The man who has a website called a voice for men who featured a man who said he agrees with marital rape? Would you take a feminist serious if she did something like that? Dont get me wrong there are legitimate mens issues but featuring a guy like that does the movement no favors.

Kevin Montrond the company can charge that much because they have no competition. The American people are forced to pick up the tab.

    • Posted by Frank08046, at Reply

TheAmazingChristianBigot Don’t blame Obamacare or Democrats for prices rising. Before Obama there were previous administrations that declined to regulate pharmaceuticals. At least with Obama’s plan it was paid for. There is nothing amazing about a Christian bigot; in fact, it’s more the norm. Bernie 2020

    • Posted by Frank08046, at Reply

Vile Crocodile Americans pay the highest drug prices in the world. Because Congress receives money from pharmaceutical companies. Then they legislate that we can’t go elsewhere for medications.

    • Posted by ATAX, at Reply

Kevin Montrond Yes, and if the government is footing the bill the company can demand the drug at exorbitant rate because government can afford it, a civilian cannot. So what was once affordable with a deal negotiated by the consumer and business is now not gonna be possible. The provider with tell them to join Obama care in order to receive the drug, of course and tax payers expense.

    • Posted by P1ranh4, at Reply

Jamie Cox unfortunately that’s not how you can your country great again. You have a systemic problem. This can’t be effectively and efficiently be solved with random and individual donations. You need to change the system, so people in need don’t need to look to get interviewed and look for exposure just to survive by basically winning the lottery.

    • Posted by Blob Loblaw, at Reply

Exactly, this is _not_ how you make the country great. It is an incredibly kind act. But the fact that this is necessary and that having a baby comes with a $9,000 bill (which, from a European perspective, is absolutely bonkers) means the country needs systemic reform, not individual altruism.

  10. Posted by Zenn Exile, at Reply

None of this is shocking AT ALL.

This is how 80% of the whole country is forced to live.

    • Posted by The Incredible Link, at Reply

By choice. The “great” American people decided to be the hoes of the plutocrats & oligarchs.

    • Posted by Nate Hoffman, at Reply

Probably about 65%, but still a valid statement. It’s a lot of America.

    • Posted by Aria Clements, at Reply

A fifth of this country lives in under the official poverty level. In most areas, the poverty level isn’t enough for rent. Add is the people who are barely scraping by but make above that too-low number, which is known as relative-poverty, and the number skyrockets. That’s just for poverty. Poor is another class, and that one is packed. I don’t think lower-middle even exists anymore. Middle class is shrinking. I’m in it, and am more aware because none of my friends can afford to do things I want to do, and so I have to be conscientious not to suggest things I know they can’t afford. To them, it’s normal. The wealthy…yeah.

At the end of it, when my husband and I are considered to be near the top 25% and are NOT rich (I have a hernia we can’t afford to do anything about, and the things I like to do that my friends can’t, like an occasional trip to the beach a couple hours away, won’t pay for surgery), it’s safe to say that it’s closer to 80% of America scraping by than 65%. We aren’t even in the most expensive city in America.

If you make Medical an industry, the only part that suff will be the people that need it! You guys need to understand that only rich people want low taxes, becouse tax should be used to help the country and the people in it!

USA new single player healthcare program: Gofundme.com

  16. Posted by Ryan Kirk, at Reply

The fact that Cenk thinks that charity is the #1 role of gov’t is pretty telling, but unsurprising. I guess we didn’t really have much of a government before the 20th century. How dare people be forced to rely on private charity when they can just get collective (non)charity.

    • Posted by ANony Mouse, at Reply

It`s not a charity its a proper society where we look out for each other.
Go get your own private *Firebrigade and Police and your own private road network* , you contribute to all them but wont contribute to what is a “Fundamental Human Right” _healthcare.._
One day the rest of the developed world will welcome the USA into the 21st century..

    • Posted by Ryan Kirk, at Reply

It is public charity in a sense and I thought I was being nice by using that term. It is actually the redistributed proceeds from theft via taxation. We already know that roads can be privatized…this has happened throughout history in many places. The other systems in theory can also function privately. Calling healthcare a right doesn’t make it so, it can’t be a right because it would force others to render healthcare services thus depriving them of their rights. You can’t logically have positive rights to anything. ‘Right to life’ is just right to not be killed.

    • Posted by ANony Mouse, at Reply

_Right to life’ is just right to not be killed_ What about being allowed to die because of inaction?
_” theft via taxation”_ you want to live in and use *their* society = pay your taxes.
I dont like paying taxes but I realise the great importance of contributing toward a society we all share..
I may never use the NHS (hopefully) but I dont mind paying toward it, for others and as a safety net for me..
It is a great service that most Brits if not all would fight tooth&nail to protect..
Ok go use your private roads and see how far you get..
Others beside you pay taxes to *ALLOW YOU* to use the roads.. How dare you use their part of the road network.. You havent paid for all of it!
I`m only using the roads as an analogy, to show that we all benefit from a public funded, shared system like your Health System should be..
Your happy to pay toward others/strangers protection whether police or fire etc because you know you benefit form it to. (hopefully you wont need them)
Yet a Public Health System is beyond your reasoning and morals, I`m alright Jack @@@@ you etc!!
As you say anything can be privatised BUT they aren`t are they and your ok with that, or are you?
Should you only be protected by the Fire Dept or Police if your over a certain tax bracket?
In a modern, developed, rich country then healthcare is “Fundamental Human Right” For ALL..
