Preem Cenk is a marxist? hahahahahahahahahahahahahhhahahhahahahahhahahahahah! As an actual marxist i find that offensive.

As a Libertarian Socialist that dabbles in Marxism, it’s funny(and sad) that Americans are so ignorant to politics to not realize Cenk is clearly centre-left(at best).

Crowder? Why is that garbage even in the conversation?

Despite my negative feelings towards TYT, I will say that Cenk’s continued fight against money in politics is admirable and righteous.

Fantastic speech. We don’t agree on everything and your coverage of Trump is hugely biased but on this particular issue you have integrity. Great job.

    This.

    • Posted by streglof, at Reply

Well, certainly not because of the popular vote. But putting that aside, democracy is much more than voting for any presidential candidate. It also means that those elected act on the voters’ interest, not the donors’ interests.

Cenk Uygur and Jimmy Dore are by far the best of TYT.

    • Posted by Ken S, at Reply

AntiFOX I don’t like Jimmy dore cuz he spits on people. But Cenk and John Iadarola are great and smart.

    • Posted by AntiFOX, at Reply

Iadarola is a DemParty loyalist dummy. I don’t take him seriously, just like the two DemParty hacks Shure & Mankiewicz

Great fact based analysis – I am curious as to the outcome by the Oxford Union Democracy Debate.

    • Posted by Jorge Amado Soria Ramírez, at Reply

I´m curious as to the other side of the debate. This one is so obvious I don´t know what´s the argument for money in politics. It is so terrible at first, second and third sight that I don´t know how it came to be.

    • Posted by Jaerdin Spader, at Reply

Jorge Amado Soria Ramírez the other side is money=speech. more money=more speech. big money media decried Wolf-PAC’s effort as an attack on “free speech”.

    • Posted by Mae Dae, at Reply

Getting money out of politics is…against free speech? Yikes.

    • Posted by Steve G, at Reply

There are several arguments against Cenk and against Wolf-PAC. Some argue that any limitations on campaign contributions are a violation of the freedom of speech, which is why Cenk did that bit in the middle about restrictions (“fire in a crowded theatre”).

Some argue that if no one can give more than a few dollars, national politicians won’t be able to raise enough and the government will have to pick up the slack, and then the government is “choosing winners and losers” by determining which candidates are worthy of the money.

Some say that if you can’t fund politicians, only the very rich will be able to run. (Of all of the arguments against, this is the only one that seems like it has some logic and realism behind it).

Some say that most politicians raise money from people that they already agree with. So if a Texas Congressman takes a donation from Big Oil, it isn’t really a bribe since he was going to support Big Oil anyway. This is countered by the fact that Wall Street, for example, gave tons of money to BOTH Trump and Clinton, and obviously no one would do this and be assured of losing half their money unless this was instead a bribe to both.

And some make strict constructionist Constitutional arguments like “The framers never addressed the issue of money corrupting politics” or “Wolf-PAC’s strategy of calling an Article V Convention could lead to disastrous unintended consequences, etc.”

And some people are just corrupt bastards themselves and love to operate in a system that is rigged for them.

    • Posted by Jorge Amado Soria Ramírez, at Reply

+Steve G I agree with you that the only one with a semblance of realism is the one you mention. The other are excuses and can be regulated.
I don´t buy the limitation to be a violation of freedom of speech. And even if it were, freedom of speech can be limited in special cases. I´ll argue this is one of the most clear ones.
