That’s not what happened. I’m a patriot and a vet and I would never indiscriminately release millions of pages of data to a foreign entity that disclosed operations and informants. That is wrong and to say something that endanged me and other soldiers is patriotic is a disgrace to real patriots. Oh and before you think I’m some warmonger the helicopter video was awful and we should prosecute someone but what she did is not the answer esp. to a russian troll like Assange.

“There’s about 5,000 to 7,000 Nazis in America. less nazis right now than ever before.” Obviously less than during the 1930’s & 40’s. But if there are “less nazi’s right now than ever before”, please explain why there are MILLIONS of unique visitors (one count per ISP address) a month to the neo-nazi website Stormfront? Don’t believe me? They have a counter up displaying their site statistics. The Neo-Nazi movement has been growing since the late 70’s with groups such as the National Front in England & the World Church of the Creator in the U.S.

More of a hero than any politician I’m aware of

    • Posted by Four-Eyed Koi, at Reply

Mablak I don’t disagree with your point. But by that standard we have to rip the hero label from every soldier in every war and scuffle since WWII. All unjust wars, with unjust reasons resulting in fruitless wastes of time and lives. Still I’m not going to do that.

There’s a cynical saying that goes something like: ‘soldiers die and kings are the heroes’.

Throughout history soldiers have been a unique victim of sorts in politics and money. When they fight just wars, they often do so because of the sins of a leader, social demographic or political party—making what of the soldiers of the losing state? When they fight unjust wars it’s also because of the sins of a leader, social demographic, or political party.

So what do we tell soldiers then who have to fight a fight that’s often not their own or brought about by plights that were not of their own doing? What do we tell the vet that lost their closest friend, an appendage, and suffers for the rest of their life from injuries both mental and physical from a period where they were treated like a weapon.

There’s a lot more to bring up here and certainly more than enough to argue why this or that guy should be a hero, but until we have that hard conversation as a nation that gonna’ hurt us and be a rough pill to swallow: I’m going to keep calling soldiers hero’s because that’s the polite thing to do. The government continues to take entitlements away from men and women that they used and disposed of after having drawn them into enlistment with the promise of taking care of them should anything go wrong.

You do what you think is right but it’s just something to think about.

    • Posted by Mablak, at Reply

+Four-eyed Koi: I would say yes, most soldiers embroiled in immoral conflicts shouldn’t usually be considered heroes, and that label should rightly be ripped from them. The US hasn’t had a ton of justified conflicts; we are not typically the good guys, and it sounds like you’re proceeding from the assumption we are. I wouldn’t say this for every US military operation, but generally speaking.

Soldiers who were drafted or otherwise forced to fight are much less to blame for their actions, of course. But that wouldn’t mean they’re off the hook, since they still made some wartime decisions, even the decision to join in cases like the Iraq War. We might not tell them they’re necessarily murderers, but they’re not generally heroes for say, saving a fellow soldier. I’d say this for the same reason we wouldn’t call a Nazi soldier a hero for saving his fellow man, given that his fellow man was fighting to help a regime that would unjustly murder others. The ethics of the conflict matters a lot here, as does the exact situation. But most soldiers, at least those not drafted, have simply made a terrible life decision by enlisting, given the imperialistic, war hawk nature of our government.

    • Posted by Bob C, at Reply

Are you kidding? A hero? Hardly. She/he broke her/his oath of enlistment as well as several laws and regulation on the handling of sensitive and classified information. She was not brave, she was a criminal. Her actions demonstrate she has NO concept of fidelity to fellow service members. If you can’t understand why she should be in prison, then I urge you to enlist for service to your country and then serve in combat. Maybe that will help you understand. Have you ever been worried that you might not survive the day? That you might never see your family again? That surviving the next hour depends on the person next to you? Betrayal of that trust and repudiation of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, and integrity us what her actions demonstrate. Period.

    • Posted by Tiffany Simmons, at Reply

She brought to light the awful things we were doing overseas without a thought of the consequences because it was the right thing to do. I understand the trust and loyalty that must be displayed in our armed forces, but she showed loyalty to her moral compass and to the American people. She was selfless, loyal, and did her duty as an American to stop heinous acts like those on the videos from occurring on a regular basis. Seems like a hero in my book.

    • Posted by Bob C, at Reply

Tiffany Simmons fine. I’ll admit that is not the issue I have with her. I can’t say I fully understand that conflict, but i respect the desire to feel whole and find resolution to that inner conflict.

Solid message, one I have to agree with. We can’t wait for the system to fix itself. She is correct in this. Establishment, “career” politicians should not be trusted to change anything, except in the favor of the 1%, Military Industrial Complex, The Koch Bros., oligarch X/Y/Z.

    • Posted by gojirazilla1, at Reply

Jay Zenitram her message, did you not see her video? Seems pretty obvious to me. You should watch it again.

    • Posted by Jay Zenitram, at Reply

Again, what message, all I heard was the typical “the other guy sucks and I will fight for you” politician bullshit. A message would be “here are the things intend to do for you …”.

    • Posted by gojirazilla1, at Reply

Seriously, to quote you, “the other guy sucks and I will fight for you.” When most politicians use that tactic, it’s mostly platitudes, but when she says it, someone who withstood torture from our her incarceration till her release, she holds more gravitas than the rest. As to the things she intends to do, in regards to actual policy proposals, maybe you should ask her for the details since you seemed interested. Such as your quote implies “‘A message would be “here are the things intend to do for you…”” How would I know what her actual policy details are, all I can comment on is her powerful history of standing up to Empire and showing it’s ugly side to it’s citizens. And with that, whatever the details of her policy plans are should come out shortly as her announcing to run just happened yesterday as posted by this video.

    • Posted by Jay Zenitram, at Reply

You are proof that, time and time again, people fall for bullshit lines. The fact of the matter is that we have no idea what this dude/chick is going to do for you, what his qualifications are, how mentally fit he is, etc. You are assuming a lot of things based on gut feeling and not concrete facts or a track record.

Aside from the fact that this guy took a tremendous personal toll for disclosing heinous crimes our government was tacitly or explicitly perpetrating (which I too find laudable) , you know nothing about this person. That does not make a person fit for the office of the senate.

    • Posted by gojirazilla1, at Reply

To quote you sir, “You are proof that, time and time again, people fall for bullshit lines.” My answer, I haven’t fallen for yours. To quote you, “… fact of the matter is that we have no idea what this dude//chick is going to do for you,” My answer, fact of the matter is that we have no idea what any politician whether new or established will do for any of us until they get in office and see what policies they come up with or disagree with (hence a track record needs to be established). To quote you, “… dude/chick…” I think this part of your quotes needs special attention in such that it suggest more about you, and I’ll use you’re own quote to answer this, “assuming a lot of things based on gut feeling and not concrete facts” My friend, I recommend you read Carl Jung’s the Red Book. It might help you understand that shadow you are projecting towards a candidate you referred to as “… dude/chick…” To quote you, “… took a tremendous personal toll for disclosing heinous crimes our government was tacitly or explicitly perpetrating…” This part of your quote seems to suggest unfit mentally due to her severe experience, and reasonably I can agree partially with it, but you overlook that such a harrowing/vile experience can also, respectively, make someone stronger for it (the other side of looking at it). To quote you, “That does not make a person fit for the office of the senate.” Well, I’ve been paying attention to politicians since the Reagan 80’s, watching income inequality occur from then till present time, one could argue that since it was our establishment, experienced politicians that took us here through what I call “reverse Robin Hood economics,” then are they also not “fit for the office of the senate.” And so why not try someone new? Could it make things worse or could it makes things better? Who knows? But isn’t one of the definitions of insanity repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome that never arrives? I think I’ll take my chances with the new and “unproven” candidate, thanks.

Chelsea NEEDS to point out WHY Maryland should replace their current Senator with her. Not just say she’s there to do better. Be specific about how the lives of families and working people in Maryland will improve if you replace the establishment candidate.

T Kelce slaughtering innocent people?! Are you high? I can say with absolute certainty that American military members do not slaughter anyone. Have you ever served in combat? Have you ever put your life in the hands of you friend standing next yo you? We’re you ever unsure if you would survive the day or ever see your family again? Be careful of your words. Your statement is a disgusting affront to the sacrifices made by strangers on your, snd your family’s behalf. I willingly raised my right hand and gave up my freedom to defend that for every other American. I gave up pieces of my body and pieces of my sanity. Many others gave up much much more. You denigrate their sacrifices with you ignorant and offensive comment. Manning actions violated the loyalty, fidelity, and honor of all her/his fellow soldiers. There are proper ways to address problems. Manning commited very serious crimes.

Exposing one thing and doing what she did was 2 completely different things. She’s committed treason and is no better then a terrorist.
