Trump advocates are charging CNN of blackmailing a Reddit individual who developed a GIF of Trump body knocking the news company's logo. Cenk Uygur, Brett Erlich, and also Grace Baldridge, the hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us exactly what you assume in the remark area listed below.

" The Reddit customer attributed for producing the video clip depicting President Donald Trump "assaulting" CNN in a fumbling ring released an extensive apology on Tuesday, saying "I am in no chance this sort of person" and that they did not support violence against the media.

The user, "HanAssholeSolo," provided the apology after CNN supposedly discovered their actual identification. The individual has considering that removed their account on the social news site.

The dispute over the video clip was stimulated Sunday when Trump tweeted the clip from his private Twitter account. The footage is initially from 2007, when Trump showed up on WWE's WrestleMania and attack WWE proprietor Vince McMahon. In the repurposed GIF, CNN's logo was superimposed on McMahon's head. "#FraudNewsCNN," the president tweeted, echoing his oft-repeated message that "phony news" prevails popular media."

Not blackmail. Not a violation of free speech. Still don’t like CNN doing it, not matter how terrible a person he was. There’s simply no point to it.

*+Mabasei* Cnn tried to contact him through phonecalls and emails and the next day he issued an apology and called cnn to apologize further…cnn stated this.

    • Posted by Claudio Venturelli, at Reply

Neil B here is the timeline of the events according to CNN own tweets.
      >CNN find the guy behind the gif
      >CNN attempts to contact him sending e-mails and phonecalls
      >the guy instantly repent and apologize on reddit
      >the guy call cnn to clarify the situation
      >cnn published an article which said they reserved the rights to publish his personal info if he behaved badly again

Mmmh totally nothing wrong with this. Also most of his posts were on a clearly satirical subreddit (/r/ImGoingToHellForThis ) that is home to dark and distasteful humor.

    • Posted by hamdoggius, at Reply

Who cares about the content he was posting? It is irrelevant to the point. Go to the actual article, TYT didn’t even show it. It’s blackmail, plain simple.

TYT unquestioningly believing fake news CNNs story. How ironic

    • Posted by ColCaffran, at Reply

Yeah mentioned it, and totally ignored what that means. It’s coercion, it’s illegal. Randos on the internet doing this sort of stuff is one thing, it’s a totally different ballgame when one of the biggest media outlets in the US does it.

Also I don’t buy CNN’s story on how they found out who this guy is
_”Using identifying information that “HanA**holeSolo” posted on Reddit, KFile was able to determine key biographical details, to find the man’s name using a Facebook search and ultimately corroborate details he had made available on Reddit.”_

I just didn’t respond to your single post in the way you expected, or wanted. There wasn’t much there to respond to. Why you thought I would escapes me. What, did you think I was going to agree with you ?

There is history to come *after* Trump. I’ve just laid out what that is likely to be. There’s going to a period in the wilderness for the GOP, and a lot of soul-searching. In order to re-build credibility and their reputation, they are going to take steps, which are going to include what I said.

      You are poor-simple.

Why would he call CNN to apologize if they didn’t blackmail him?!?!

    • Posted by Moving Froward, at Reply

Dean Clark ” So if you’re throwing eggs at my house, I’m blackmailing you if I yell at you to stop or I’ll call the cops? ”

Throwing eggs is illegal shitposting is not! Its hilarious how you idiots keep comparing what he did with an illegal act!

    • Posted by Dean Clark, at Reply

I used throwing eggs as a metaphor.  We could go with one kid putting his finger right in front of the face of another kid and saying ‘I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you!’ and the other kid telling mom on the first kid.  Heck, I’m just surprised CNN didn’t sue the guy for using their logo in hate speech (the Jewish post, not the wrestling one) and force him to defend his fair use in court.  He likely would have won, but probably would have had his real name exposed in the process.

  8. Posted by Actual Justice Warrior, at Reply

This is nonsense, they contacted him before the apology via phone, & email. He apologized out of fear, & then called back & spoke to CNN. Then they put in the article that they would reveal his name if he went back on his apology. That’s blackmail, this random guy’s name isn’t news worthy, he made a meme. The guy Doxing CNN employees is garbage. But this video is just false

    • Posted by apieceofmoldedclay, at Reply

Kaczynski already lied publicly at least once…. why should we ever trust him?

    • Posted by MrHandss, at Reply

actually, they don’t have authority to just reveal the guy’s personal information if he has it. oh, and trump didn’t even get the gif from the guy off of reddit. someone took the gif and added the sound to it from the original voice clip and trump got the video, not the gif.

    • Posted by apieceofmoldedclay, at Reply

Well threats aren’t protected. I thought even 5 y/o children like yourself knew that. Even when you are protected by confidentiality there is always the clause of… unless you say you will hurt yourself or someone else. Where exactly are you on the spectrum?

CNN stating that they will hold off on doxxing someone (yes it is doxxing. Exposing his name will give everyone all they need to find him.), who posted on an anonymous board, if they conform to your standards forever? That is most definitely blackmail.

Apparently Cenk thinks that CNN tracking down a random Reddit user and threatening to dox him if he continues to be critical of them is perfectly fine. So much for fighting for the little guy against multinational corporations.

    • Posted by Zohm B, at Reply

James Dana, I’m not sure how that is a problem? If someone is looking for an abortion doctor, that would help them out.

  17. Posted by Anonymous Anime Icon, at Reply

The distinction that Cenk makes between doxing someone’s home address and doxing their name is stupid. You can easily find out someone’s home address if you know their name and general location.

    • Posted by Jon Smith, at Reply

you can do that with just a screen name also

    • Posted by gyrate4, at Reply

It’s not the same.  Plenty of people have the same name.  The address is different.

    • Posted by CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU, at Reply

  18. Posted by Matt Doe, at Reply

TYT doesn’t understand why it’s wrong and bizarre for a giant news outlet to say to one every-day American, “We know your name and we’ll release it if you don’t stop.” That’s called blackmail, retards. This is why TYT is fake news.

    • Posted by Joffrey King of the Andals Baratheon, at Reply

    • Posted by Greg M., at Reply

TYT knows it’s wrong but doesn’t care. Apparently, it’s OK to blackmail and dox someone in the name of fighting ‘waaaycism’ and antisemitism. Cenk would probably support implementing draconian hate speech laws in the US.

    • Posted by Killer Puppies, at Reply

goatzking the article that actually posted the information that everyone is mad about said something along the lines of
“we reserve the right to release this information should any of that change”
Something you could have easily found out if you didn’t get all your information from tyt

    • Posted by CRAZYGUNDAMOTAKU, at Reply

*+goatzking* There’s the cnn article itself where they blatantly admit to the act of blackmail (now deleted but definitely archived), there’s cnn’s tv report on it, then there’s Kaczynski’s tweets (now deleted but definitely archived) and the jackass Chris Cuomo’s tweets on the subject.

    • Posted by James Dana, at Reply

Then a sign saying, “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone,” is the same as discrimination?
