Democrats are winning in really unlikely places. Cenk Uygur, the host of The Young Turks, informs you regarding Allison Ikley-Freeman. Inform us exactly what you think in the comment area below. Sign up with TYT:

" OKLAHOMA CITY– Democrats have actually turned an additional statehouse seat in deeply conservative Oklahoma amid expanding irritation over years of state budget shortages as well as current scandals that brought about the resignation of Republican incumbents.

Democrat Allison Ikley-Freeman beat Republican Brian O'Hara in Tuesday's special political election for a state Us senate seat representing components of Tulsa. Complete yet informal political election results reveal that Ikley-Freeman, who is a therapist at a not-for-profit mental wellness firm, won by 31 ballots.

That seat was abandoned after Republican Sen. Dan Newberry claimed he would certainly step down early to concentrate on his career in banking.

Ikley-Freeman's win marks the fourth pickup for state Democrats in special political elections this year in Oklahoma, where Republican politicians have actually controlled state national politics recently. The GOP still has a 39-8 advantage over Democrats in the Us senate, a 72-28 side in the House as well as manages every statewide and legislative workplace.

The 26-year-old said Oklahoma's continuing state spending plan troubles were a large worry of voters she spoke to throughout the project."

The DNC doesn’t want to win with a progressive candidate. They would rather lose than have progressives in office.

      Then why did this happen?

    • Posted by Dahlia Legacy, at Reply

It happened in spite of the DNC, not because of it.

    • Posted by Renee Bream, at Reply

Maywither Dragon : Well, that is too damn bad for them. Because that is their biggest competition! It is what the people in this democracy want.

  5. Posted by tecnoblix, at Reply

It also says something else, when a Lesbian with children wins in Oklahoma. It says Americans are PROGRESSIVE! At least way more Progressive than the Conservative echo chamber wants you to think. She wins, while at the same time a Conservative Republican resigns in shame for being caught having sex with another man. The disconnect is boggling.

There are more of us than there are Republicans. That’s just a fact. We win if we vote. Yes, not every Democrat is great to vote for. But get out there and vote. If you don’t like a particular Democrat, vote for him/her and then spend the next couple years finding a better one. Just please stop staying home on election day.

    • Posted by First lady Princest Ivanka, at Reply

      Justice Democrats 2018.

    • Posted by BLAIR M Schirmer, at Reply

No. If we don’t like a “particular Democrat” the Democrats need to run more progressive candidates, better candidates, honest candidates, for the people.

Enough with corporate scum that just happen to have a “D” by their names.

    • Posted by Renee Bream, at Reply

MaGarthur : 👍🏻. But you must admit that the Democratic Party had gotten very out of touch with the needs of many working people. They were far too conservative to be of much use to my family. And I could not vote for Hilary because of her friendship with Robert Byrd! That made her and Trump both racists. Still, not voting at all did help lead to an absolute lunatic getting into office. Hilary would have been the lesser of two evils, I suppose. I just needed to have some real progressive options on the table. I believe I will have that in the future. Phew!

Just like Obama did 2010, but then got re-elected in 2012, just how Trump might also in 2020.

TheByzantineBeserker Significant numbers of conservatives in the cultural south/rural america generally are deeply homophobic.

Um, you are clearly not a lesbian, please step to the back of the line .

    • Posted by TheByzantineBeserker, at Reply

Steve Palmer. Yes they are, but those numbers don’t make the United States as a whole a homophobic country.

    • Posted by TheByzantineBeserker, at Reply

TheByzantineBeserker. So because I’m not a lesbian, I’m unable to recognize objective truths about homophobia and where the US ranks in regards to other countries? This is the type of identity politics that hurts the left.

    • Posted by Poochie Collins, at Reply

@TheByzantineBeserker : it is kind of a miracle. Look at Alabama, a state with similar depth of conservativeness, most likely going to elect a serial sexual assaulter of teenage girls just because the opponent is a Democrat.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many Republicans are fully aware that demographic changes combined with the unpopularity generated by the current administration are going to render the GOP permanently unelectable beyond 2020, and are currently just cynically endeavoring to nab whatever crumbs they can – in the form of the tax cuts and repeal of net neutrality and so on – before the ship inevitably sinks.

    • Posted by Lenard Segnitz, at Reply

Gerrymandering and voter supression laws have raised the bar that Dems need to clear. If the Dems don’t put forward a progressive candidate they won’t be able to clear that bar. Whoever it is has to be a clear progressive but not a full-on batshit SJW. It’s too much of a risk to try to swing the pendulum too far to the left. A younger Bernie Sanders, a salt of the earth, consistent progressive would be perfect.

    • Posted by Simon Winn, at Reply

I’ve heard the line about republicans being unelectable a few years ago, how did that turn out. A sinking boat still has a chance of sailing into harbor.

Thankfully, I don’t live in America. However, I have been following the news. So far I have yet to find anyone here who can understand why any sane, ordinary, working person would ever vote for the Republican Party when they have made it perfectly plain that they are only interested in the extremely wealthy and see ordinary people as cash cows to be milked of everything they have.

To us, ordinary Republican Voters are like Turkeys voting for Thanksgiving.
