James Woolsey is a Comey-esque partisan hack that ran a massively effective and unaccountable knowledge agency. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Inform us just what you think in the comment area below.

" Fox News' Shep Smith on Monday opposed James Woolsey after the former Director of Central Knowledge politicized the harmful attack in Manchester, England.

" I think radical Islamists have actually determined to grab the rate with the terrorist attacks and I assume we'll possibly see some a lot more," Woolsey proceeded. "And we currently have a president that is very simple that he goes to battle with them. He's not mosting likely to soft-peddle that, he calls them wicked."

" And we haven't had a scenario like that," he included. "We did not have, in the 8 years of the Obama administration, a head of state who wanted to battle as well as win a battle."" *.

_The problem I have is how the issue is seen to be_ *_Islam._* _I am a Muslim and my mosque teaches love. respect and unity. We play football (soccer) against all religious groups and also people who don’t have any beliefs. We do not discriminate. We play against people from different locations. We play against church teams, temple teams, e.c.t. and there is a small league that’s been set up. This prevents kids from going to brainwashed places and keeps them in a safe environment. My mosque teaches about this kind of barbaric sick people who have come to target our religion and twist it to their favour. We have addressed our local communities and we have opened our mosque for everybody to come in and talk with us and find ways to bring people together. This problem needs to be stopped._

_My condolences are with those who were affected and their families. And well done to our police, ambulance, bomb disposal team, the people of Manchester who opened their doors for refuge e.c.t. Amazing work!_

well it’s true, obama killed more muslim “combattants” with drones strikes and other operations than any president before him

Robert X. I like how your rebuttal to blaming the predecessor is to just blame Obama’s predecessor. Both teams are such childish hypocrites that constantly pass the blame. Also not to defend Trump or Bush (because they’re both horrible too), but Obama had the most war of any president in history. He was no angel. He had multiple wars going for all 8 years of his presidency. And he was the anti-war candidate that won a Nobel Peace Prize… Give me a break. Republicunts and Demobrats both suck.

ISIS attacks civilians in Western nations, so as to spread fear, make Western people hate Muslim people, and ultimately make Western people bomb Muslim people more fervently. ISIS wants this, so as to win the war of hearts and minds, and to also usher in an apocalypse of mass death and destruction. ISIS is pretty much a death cult.

AnonEyeMouse Thank goodness some people understand how to utilize their eyes and ears and objectively assess and fairly compare subject matter. I’ve been trying to explain this for almost a year now, and getting the most fear based, quixotic, apathetic, childish replies in return… glad to see someone else is getting through and putting things in perspective. I can take a breath now.

IS was born out of an attempt to replace the ruling party of Iraq…it’s sad that there wasnt this foresight and at the cost of hundreds of thousands of deaths.

No need for Russian propaganda. It was largely the Russian backed Assad forces who tried to hose out Aleppo. The person who replied to you is correct. Russia claimed to be fighting IS but that was largely not the case….it was fighting the Syrian opposition, including moderate groups. IS was a second thought. It’s a classic case of active measures.
See Chechen war, for a number of similar activities resulting in tens of thousands of civilian deaths.

Haven’t you been listening to the commentators on this story??! This is the West’s fault, that poor guy who blew up those people had no choice after the US bombed Afghanistan….*eye roll*

    • Posted by Joker, at Reply

+heydudewhatsup No one justifies terrorism, but this cycle of violence in the Middle East and Afghanistan must end. No one wakes up in the morning and decides to kill himself, you must end these wars completely to achieve lasting peace.

    • Posted by KevVIII, at Reply

No one here is justifying terrorism. However, what Cenk is saying is based on one, VERY crucial assumption:

We the newer generation in the West are equipped with better opportunities and education to understand that answering violence with violence is a stupid idea. If what it takes for us to fix the problem is to prevent our politicians from doing stupid things, we should at the very least understand that we should be informed of the situation from their side enough that we can coax the politics into more peaceful resolution.

From the UK with love: Woolsey doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This is not Obama’s fault. Terrorism is not like Rumpelstiltskin. Saying the name aloud does not make it go away.

Choco, removing Saddam wouldn’t have mattered if they retained the military and police forces sympathetic to Saddam. The Shia were undergoing ethnic cleansing by Saddam and the Sunni of Iraq. The Sunni being not represented was not a wrong move.

    • Posted by Martin Metivier, at Reply

Nexus, once and for all, Obama did not pulled troops from Iraq because he had a choice. Al-Maliki and the Iraqi’s government forced the American troops out for the most part keeping a small amount for training and securing some key areas.

quote: “So let’s just be clear: The reason that we did not have a follow-on
force in Iraq was because the Iraqis were–a majority of Iraqis did not
want U.S. troops there, and politically they could not pass the kind of
laws that would be required to protect our troops in Iraq,” said Obama.

So unless you advocate that Obama should have invaded the newly freed Iraq to impose his troops, or that he should have stayed there despite the local government’s will and laws to protect US soldiers on Iraqi’s soil… I don’t know why you keep stating false facts reported by the right wing media who constantly “forget” to relay part of the information that do not suit their political agenda.

Obama bashing at all costs and despite the facts are on the right wing flag. The truth does not matter, only promoting the anti-liberal agenda at every cost, even without facts.

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

Martin, so you believe the man who couldn’t properly negotiate the continuation of the SOFA? It’s a negotiation, not ultimatum time. It’s not something where you hit a roadblock and just drop the whole thing.

    • Posted by Martin Metivier, at Reply

Wow how do you know he did not negotiated? There was talks with both armies and at the end the Iraqi government decided that they did not want occupation forces everywhere but some in key areas and some for training their own forces.

So there was negotiation, but there is no way to know if Obama could have kept more troops, he was not in a position to impose anything.

You make it sound like Obama ordered his troops out the next morning and they all left on the next boat or plane with their tail between their legs.

It took months to get the troops out and the Iraqi government and the population wanted the US out sooner than that, still the negotiation permitted the training of the new army and that was the ultimate goal just like in Afghanistan, to train the local people and show them how to carry the fight themselves.

So again, this talking point was never about Obama’s decision but on blaming everything you could on Obama’s presidency, imposed on holy conservatives by worthless – snowflakes – pity – filthy – lazy – communists – liberal scum, twice.

Did you know that Obama was an Illuminati / Franc-Macon / secretly friend with the Sasquatch which is a fascist communist, raping and killing babies, not born in the us and worst of all MUSLIM ?

Obama did a lot of things wrong let’s not pass on that, but even more were right. It’s not because the right wing media ONLY reported the bad stuff, that he made a majority of bad decisions.

nope, sorry Woolsey you cant blame the black man for this he’s not in charge anymore. we are-even though it feels like an eternity-4 months into trump. you cant blame obama for trump’s or bush’s screw ups. if we never invaded iraq ISIS would probably never exist.

    • Posted by Goldgem1 InfinityX, at Reply

Thank you! ISIS emerged as a violent post-Iraqi-War terror group reacting, in part, to avenge Saddam Hussein’s fall, the perceived American help to the Shiites to soar over the Sunnis, and partly to resist the effective American degrading assaults on Al-Qaeda. Plain and simple. Surely, we would not have had ISIS, if the USA had not invaded Iraq.

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

Zen, I see where I misread her statement. I wasn’t intentionally making a straw man, but because I misread what she was saying, it happened. But I was beyond there being WMD’s as it was irrelevant, so I thought it was an agreement that whether or not there were WMD’s was irrelevant. It was mostly about Saddam’s refusal to work with UN inspectors, which is why Clinton was even preparing for invasion into Iraq following Operation Desert Fox which was a rocketing campaign onto Baghdad.

    • Posted by Zen David, at Reply

Thank you, nexus, for that follow-up & clarification. Further, I agree that WMD’s were irrelevant for the decision-makers who wanted war with Iraq, but the specter of WMD’s was used to sell the war/invasion to the American people. Hillary, like so many others in power, supported the invasion of Iraq (based on that shabby, slim “WMD intelligence”), most likely because she believed it to be the better position to hold, for her own self-serving interests. At the very best, she was stupid for taking that position, and there are many, like me, who have neither forgotten nor forgiven her for it. The fact that we can still so freely use the acronym today shows how pervasive those three letters became in our culture. I am curious as to why you believe WMD’s were irrelevant to the Iraq invasion?

    • Posted by nexus1g, at Reply

When I say Clinton, I mean Bill Clinton btw. It was mostly about Saddam blocking UN inspectors and Saddam’s history of supporting Palestinian and Turkish terrorists, both a great threat to allies. With the two successful attacks on the WTC in the 90’s and again in 2001, there was little patience for giving Saddam a chance to support the newly emboldened terrorist elements.

      ISIS was created in 1999, during Bill Clinton’s presidential terms. January 20, 1993 – January 20, 2001

      ISIS History

The group has had various names since it was founded in 1999 by Jordanian radical Abu Musab al-Zarqawi under the name Jamāʻat al-Tawḥīd wa-al-Jihād (lit. ”The Organisation of Monotheism and Jihad”).[40] When in October 2004 al-Zarqawi swore loyalty to Osama bin Laden, he renamed the group Tanẓīm Qāʻidat al-Jihād fī Bilād al-Rāfidayn (lit. ”The Organisation of Jihad’s Base in Mesopotamia”), commonly known as al-Qaeda in Iraq or AQI.[217][218] Although the group never called itself al-Qaeda in Iraq, this remained its informal name for many years.[219]

In January 2006, AQI merged with several other Sunni insurgent groups to form the Mujahideen Shura Council (MSC).[220] After al-Zarqawi was killed in June 2006, the MSC merged in October 2006 with several more insurgent factions to form a new group, ad-Dawlah al-ʻIraq al-Islāmiyah, which translates as the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI).[221] The ISI was led by Abu Omar al-Baghdadi and Abu Ayyub al-Masri,[222] who were killed in a US–Iraqi operation in April 2010, after which Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi became the group’s new leader. – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_State_of_Iraq_and_the_Levant#History

Yup! Very true. But… actually my point was kinda the opposite. In that… while men commit so so much of the terrible things in the world, 1 in 2 people are men, so we really should say men are not overall the problem. Only a small percentage commit terrible acts. And same with Islam. Yes you could argue they commit more terrorist acts than other religious people, but they are such a tiny tiny fraction. Let’s not paint everyone with the same brush.

Yup, war is terrible but it has to be fought, then leave them to fight their own wars. They’ll eventually give up, tire out and lose. Somebody has to lose. I was hoping the least Trump could do, is to leave the Syrian war alone. But nope, he had to go and bomb them and he’s deploying more and more troops into the middle east, In Afghanistan and Iraq without the mainstream media saying anything.

    • Posted by off-kilter, at Reply

Yea then sooner or later the Yemen bombing by Trump will come back to us?

    • Posted by Enkarashaddam, at Reply

nitelite78 The heavy arms deals with the Syrian rebels happened several years *after* the Syrian war began. And yes, the Libyan civil war started out much the same way that Syria did, with protesters getting shut down by violence; protests that included allowing women the right to own and drive a car on their own. Regardless how you feel the Arab spring was motivated, once a large scale revolt stretching four adjacent countries gets underway it cannot be stopped easily.

You have to remember that *before the military intervention in Benghazi happened* the interior minister, the justice minister, a general and the troops under his command, an airforce colonel, and the Libyan top diplomat all defected. The rebels were then gifted with four MiG-21 fighter jets from defecting air force personnel. At the height of the fighting the rebels were as far as Ben Jawad and approaching Sirte. So, yes, it was a civil war. It was a damned if you did damned if you don’t situation that required quick action to give momentum to the right people. But Obama chickened out and gave the Syrian rebels flack jackets in 2012 when he should have been giving them guns.
