If NK launched a missile everyone on the planet would hear about it.
This would happen right before the report of North Korea turning
into a desolate wasteland for the next decade..

I woudln’t be able to stop laughing if the very stable genius preempted one of your states into oblivion. Meh it was a small state, out in the middle of nowhere, we’ll just build a wall to keep the fallout out!…. A hugemongous wall..the bestest wall ever!

Well that is the case in many countries every single day thanks to U.S., israel, and Saudi Arabia missles and bombing.

    • Posted by Jason Blackstone, at Reply

Yungrexy ok thats not entirely true. There are Palestinian groups that attack innocent people.

The Israel state isn’t innocent but you have to Acknowledge that there is been acts committed by Palestinians that didn’t help their case.

That by no means Justifies Israel’s disproportionate responses.

    • Posted by Yungrexy, at Reply

I of course accept that and I understand terrorism well enough to see both the cause & effect not just the headline. I am not condoning any of the violence.

You can’t poke a hornets nest and complain when you get stung!

Yungrexy I get it. It’s too bad they can’t just sit back have a few cold ones (for the Jews) and I don’t know, can Muslim smoke pot? I know they don’t drink.

    • Posted by Yungrexy, at Reply

Alcohol kills nearly as many people worldwide as the US government does. I prefer more natural substances myself 😀 Muslims do drink, smoke hash & opium just like regular people and that’s the point, we all need to be more accepting and understanding of each others (often very slight) differences. Discovering and sharing cultures is one of the beauties of life, learning and travelling.
The world gets smaller every day for the narrow minded.
      Peace to all.

I agree but different reason I think no proof either way

    • Posted by Ian Ford, at Reply

Blendre First the “SpaceX” launch that wasn’t alerted to the public, save the tech public. That flooded 911 switchboards and social media. But then there is a “fake” missle strike alert in Hawaii?? It’s almost like we are prepped for something, and when it occurs many will brazenly say “Ahh, just another false alarm”. But then it is not.

    • Posted by Shadowtechnik, at Reply

      Conspiracy nut alert

    • Posted by Ian Ford, at Reply

Shadowtechnik You do realize Japan just reported a missle “false alarm” in the past hour. Seruously, what are the odds of 2 military missle strike false alarms in 2 different locations….within one week. Believing it is mere happenstance or just a fluke, now YOU’D be the conspiracy nut. The real answer isn’t always manifested at the moment. We will find out shortly.

Relieved that this was an error, but this shows the mindset of our citizens due to the actions of two infantile leaders threatening nuclear war because the can’t physically measure their penis’s publicly. Take the nuclear codes away from a man child who treats this as a game of chicken!!

Even video games have a fail safe. A video game will ask you twice before making very important decisions like “are You sure you want to delete your save file? “. What the hell is wrong with the incompetent government?

    • Posted by farfiman, at Reply

Nothing to do with the leaders. The response would have been the same during Obama years.

    • Posted by Mike C, at Reply

Kim Jung Un has a better chance of hitting a half court shot then Hawaii with any missiles…
This missile has to get by Japan, Guam and Hawaii defenses.
Un would have to be a complete idiot to try and launch anything through such a heavy
      defense net..

  6. Posted by MaGarthur, at Reply

To anyone denying it was one person hitting the wrong button, I know someone who used to be in charge of these things. It absolutely could be one person hitting the wrong button. All the alerts are on one page and someone likely selected the alert that said “not a drill.” It’s not some sophisticated system like people seem to think. Usually only the higher-ups have access to the alert that says “not a drill” so as to limit the chances of a mistake like this. It’s no excuse but this is in fact very likely what happened. Government is people and people make mistakes.

    • Posted by Villain Voice, at Reply

I feel like I have repeatedly been told that systems like this one are hideously out of date, to the point that they’re mostly held together by piss and grit. I don’t say that as a slight to our military. More that…those parts don’t get funded like the others do, they don’t get the critical infrastructure upgrades. So I don’t find this all that shocking. We can take it the other way, right? In the event of some kind of actual attack…You don’t want to have to wait for Dave to get back from the bathroom to confirm the “This IS a real emergency” message. You want to be able to send that message, worst-case-scenario, with 1 person, 1 computer, zero checks.

    • Posted by Be N S O N, at Reply

Villain Voice I know that for the nuclear systems that still run on 8 inch floppy disks, its probably better that way because introducing new tech introduces new vulnerabilities to the system.

Things overheard during the shift change..
Remember this is the button you push in the event of an emergency

    Where is the button?

Right in front of you, that’s the button, the button is right there, but do not push the button.

    This button right here?

Yes! But do not push the button.
(long pause) unless there is an emergency.

I just pushed the button. The button is working as designed.

    ……..
    …..

    • Posted by jim Morrison, at Reply

Denis Shillingford a false to acomplish what?

    • Posted by Braden Wilson, at Reply

Denis, that just isn’t true. After the accident they have made alerts in a certain category (ballistic missile threats are in that category) require verification and confirmation. Before, it was literally just an option in a drop down menu that required only the confirmation of the guy who’s sending it selecting it.

That was the first thought i had. Testing peoples reaction to nuclear confrontation. No one on Hawaii thought this was a missile from Japan, i wonder what country they prepared mentally would try to kill them. This is how many Wars started

  16. Posted by Vchema 76, at Reply

As a resident of Hawaii let me tell you a story. First off I worked a graveyard shift the night before so I slept through all that nonsense. But almost all my friends realized that there really nothing we can do in a missile attack. We live on an island, we cant go anywhere. Most of my friends held there love ones and waited for what they thought was the end. The worst bart was they didn’t send a text canceling the alert. It came over the tv, and radio almost 38 minutes later.

Can we just all take a second and be happy Trump didn’t respond by pushing that “big” orange button on his desk and letting a couple of nukes fly towards a few brown countries.

    • Posted by Sean, at Reply

He probably did, only to discover that it’s not an actual button to launch nukes, but to call people.

    • Posted by jawadad802, at Reply

he actually did push all the buttons but subsequently only reached a high score on streetfighter as he grabbed Baron’s gameconsole instead of the nuclear football.
