" AMY GOODMAN: We start today's program in Georgia, where the Republicans have actually pulled off a victory in one of the most expensive legislative race in history. In a special political election in Georgia's 6th District, Republican Karen Handel won nearly 53 percent of the vote, defeating her opposition, Democrat Jon Ossoff, to be– to fill the seat left uninhabited after Tom Cost surrendered to end up being assistant of wellness as well as human services. The candidates and outside teams spent more than $55 million on the race, a record-shattering quantity. While the seat has been held by a Republican for decades, Democrats were wishing to manage an upset in the country Atlanta area where Head of state Trump's authorization ranking is just 35 percent. This notes the fourth legislative race Democrats have actually shed given that the election of Trump. Talking Tuesday night, Handel gave thanks to President Trump." *.

Okay, stop bringing up people Geert Wilders and Marine Le Pen for why the right is losing. If you’re an actual fiscal conservative and right winger you’d be against these candidates. You wouldn’t support racist economic moderates that are against TRADE. In the Netherlands the fright winger is still prime minister, and in France Macron supports lower taxes and is pro trade. In Britain, the Conservatives are still in power, but oh no they’re going to be held accountable by an even more right wing party. Oh the humanity! The real right is actually winning.

    • Posted by Nicholas Mulieri, at Reply

I understand the situation and that’s my point. Since the Democrats won’t change and a corporatist like Cuomo is likely going to be the nominee Trump will win. The approval of the Democrats is less than Trump.

    • Posted by neal thailand, at Reply

Infinite fantasy? Winning what?. Winning the office doesn’t do much, if the goals you were sold aren’t cared about by your elected. Are you seeing a wall ever built? Nope. Getting the ACA replaced? Nope. Are we getting out of NAFTA? Nope. Declaring China a ‘currency manipulator’ and sanctioning them? Nope. Changed the war on ISIL yet? Nope. Banned Moose lambs in a constitutional way yet? Nope. Done ANYTHING with or about NATO other then make them laugh at our president? Nope. Made our country “safer” yet? Nope, the opposite, lost intelligence sharing with the rest of the world, didn’t fill 1/2 a dozen critical anti-terror positions and painted a bullseye on us for extremists. Ford moving to China? Yep. Trump moving businesses to China? Yep. Jerods family selling Visas in China? Yep. If you’re winning son, I’d hate to see what happens to you when you lose…

neal thailand wow he’s amazing but do you really expect all this to be done in half a year with the obstructionist dems literally vowing to stop any and everything he does or propagate this russian conspiracy which is taking much needed time and energy. The wall IS coming, jobs have doubled and he has put the immigration ban up 3 different times. It is completely constitutional but can he really do anything about the judges fighting it? naw not really. Not to mention the amount of illegals getting deported every day. As of now, im extremely happy with the job for everything else give it time. He has about 7 more yrs to get too it.

Democrats fall in Love. Republicans fall in line.

    • Posted by FlamingLips79, at Reply

The problem here wasn’t the dems in the district not voting, it was the fact that it’s a red district.  The only reason this race was even close is because many republican voters stayed at home.  I think I saw a chart the other day that stated there was a -36% dropoff in republican voters for this special election, while the dems stayed even.

    • Posted by FlamingLips79, at Reply

Cynthric’s   What’s funny about your comment is how untrue it is.  Democrats talk about their agenda, but their views tend to clash with republican voters. so it’s a no-win situation. It’s the same problem conservatives have with liberal voters, it’s just that at the moment they don’t need to worry about getting dem votes, but at some point they will. The issue is really just party loyalty.

Trump (or someone guiding him) was at least smart enough to have him run as a Republican, because they knew that’d be his best chance at winning, and maintaining his base.  Conservatives don’t tend to waiver in their loyalty, no matter how horrible a person in power may be.  That’s not the case for dems.

Progressive democrats can’t win in red states. Example of this is when Quist, a progressive Democrat backed by Bernie Sanders lost to Gianforte by 6 percent, despite Gianforte body slamming a reporter. Another example is when Canova lost to Wasserman Schultz, despite Bernie Sanders’ backing of Canova.

Please let go of the term “Justice Democrats.” From a marketing perspective it’s too closely related to SJW, which is a liability with the swing voters we need. No chance of a San Francisco liberal voting Republican, so don’t worry about them–find a name that embodies strength, a break from money-driven politics and fresh ideas.

Honestly I did support a minimum wage increase but now I don’t. My dad owns a small business and a 15 dollar minimum wage is going to crush him. I think wages should be the way they are.

    • Posted by Chris Rodier, at Reply

Hazzah King yep and huge companies who take your tax money for themselves can keep on doing so.

Or we could redirect these tax credits away from people like Walmart, toward people like your dad and still increase the minimum wage.

      Wow just a littl

    • Posted by Elizabeth Fuller, at Reply

No they shouldn’t. Guess what actually happens when you implement smart minimum wage laws things improve for businesses. My home state of Oregon implemented a law designed to gradually raise the minimum wage. The law is set up so there are different tiers based on geography and the average wage in the area. We have the lowest unemployment rates in two decades and business is doing very well in my state. The overwhelming majority of data about minimum wages show’s that the sweet spot is right around half the median wage in an area indexed by cost of living. That’s where America was when it was highly prosperous in the fifties and the sixties. Most place’s in this country are pretty far from that sweet spot their minimum wage is set way too low.  Remember if people have more money to spend in general than that means they have more money to spend at your dad’s business and that’s exactly what the data show’s.

    • Posted by msl 2015, at Reply

Raising the minimum wage would add billions of dollars to the economy that your dad could compete for. You are advocating for companies like walmart and mcdonalds to continue to be able to use government subsidies to supplement their low pay. People who work for minimum wage qualify for food stamps and every other government assistance program. Who do you think pays for these subsidies? The answer is small businesses like your dads.
