The American singer-songwriter is being pilloried for publishing a photo of an Indian siren on Instagram, with the caption 'present mood.'

The post has actually got over 250,000 sort and 11,000 remarks, the majority of them unsavory preachings from Indians, that think that the value of siren Kali (considered a magnificent guard by Hindus) is shed on her.

One customer composed: "Please Katy !! Do not use such kind of Indian God's and also siren' pics to represent our mood. Do you know what this pic ways and also exactly what's the tale behind it."

An additional claimed: "We do not care concerning your mood … you need to remove this blog post or else Indians quickly transform their mood."

And a third one said: "Just how ridiculous this? You do not have approval to submit a photo of our siren on this f ** king social media as well as unpleasant our culture."

    • Posted by Ms Temptation, at Reply

Charles Wang yes but the people who do this are American white people that create those memes and that’s the difference.

      Drega001 , I agree with this 💯 percent.

    • Posted by Sarahbellum 1245, at Reply

+Ms Temptation doesn’t matter. I’m not a Christian. Also Christianity originated in the middle east so if you’re upset with anyone it should be every white American who is also Christian as they appropriated the whole damn religion.

why dose does it matter all religion are fake and stupid

    • Posted by Keith Demons, at Reply

Almost? EVERY race has a bloody past. Every race has taken every other race as slaves, Especially their own.
“The trans atlantic slave trade was particularly bad because it was brutal” (Ignoring the pre established history/structure in africa thanks to arabs who were already at it for hundreds of years)
Of course, only whites are expected to have collective guilt for the sins of someone else’s white ancestors.

BTW, Jews petitoned for slavery in america, jews also owned many of the supplies and ships that were used to buy and transport them. There’s a reason why Slave auctions were postponed if they fell on a Jewish holiday….

Let’s spread some of the guilt.

Chrissie Sattva Well put the Human race did its best to wipe out the peaceful races in ancient times hell if you didn’t have advanced weapons or an army you were bound to be taken out by those that did. We are all related to barbarian warmongers and hunters. All we can do is acknowledge it and never let it get to that point again. Scary thing is lack of education or Religion (worshiping a book written in barbarian unmoral times) is the only way humanity could fall back to that. Let’s all progress and respect and love humanity in all its forms and work to have a Utopia on earth and if we fall short at least we got closers to it.

I totally agree w. Cenk. I’m liberal & not afraid to be called so but I beleive this cultural appropriation is being taken a bit too far especially living in country which is the supposed melting pot of the world. And as a Latino I really don’t see anything wrong w/ people borrowing from my culture as long as it’s not meant to be offensive, in this case I can understand why it would be offensive to some but imo it seems like ppl are looking for something to be offended by rather than ppl being genuinely offended.

    • Posted by Sarahbellum 1245, at Reply

+PowdaToastFace Killah Well, can you refute that? I just don’t think it makes sense that people expect only someone of a certain culture to like things of that culture. If you like something, you’re going to want to use it as well. I think it’s stupid to separate people by culture, especially in this day and age, when the other side of the planet is pretty much a click away on the internet.

At one point in time, perhaps this would have been more damning, because our cultures didn’t as regularly bump up next to each other via the Internet and other mass media.

Nowadays, it’s just silly to expect people to “stay in their own lane” and only adhere to their own culture’s accomplishments and facets. Does that mean that everyone needs to pay ancestry.com to find out if they’re Scottish or Irish or Indian, and what percentage, so they can find out what cultures they can publicly admire and to what extent?

Cultural appropriation, as I’ve said earlier, is stealing from another’s culture and pretending like it’s part of your own. Like the Beach Boys/Chuck Berry example. On Twitter, where the photo is commonly known to be of a different culture than to what Katy Perry was born into, citation and giving credit is not only redundant, but pointless, as she was only expressing herself and not really gaining anything (such as money or notoriety) from it.

    • Posted by Zaknafein343, at Reply

@Sarahbellum 1245: I don’t think the angry Hindus are shouting “cultural appropriation” since Hinduism is a religion. Some people just don’t like their religious iconography being used in such a casual, pop-cultural way.

    • Posted by hewtwo, at Reply

ddd ddd To quote Yoda… ‘I sense great fear in you.’ 🙂 Probably the result of consuming too much far-right (or far-left) media which is designed to play on your emotions. The ‘Multiculturism is death’ tones you use are ridiculous. What matters is how you think. It’s an old saying that freedom isn’t free, so one shouldn’t complain about fighting against crazy ideas – also try not to go crazy yourself and fall into the trap extremist ideology lays for you… they want you to exchange western ideals like of equality for all for exclusive-ism so they can recruit more insecure, fearful people. So obvious.

Who cares what her intent is? Even if she intentionally wanted to offend people it still wouldn’t be a problem. Either learn how to deal with other people not sharing the same religious views as you or don’t and constantly be offended. Pick one. Don’t care which.
