" An examination is continuous after a leak in the significant Keystone power pipeline spilled nearly 795,000 litres of oil onto farmland in the US state of South Dakota.

That is the equivalent of 5,000 barrels of oil, claimed TransCanada, the Calgary-based company that operates Keystone, a 4,324-km pipeline which brings crude oil from Canada through the United States.

The firm said the pipeline was shut down on Thursday early morning after the leakage was detected near the town of Amherst, South Dakota.
" Emergency situation reaction treatments were turned on," TransCanada claimed in a statement." *.

Fossil fuel is a dying industry thats why these corporations are fighting so hard.

    • Posted by Vicky Mc, at Reply

Short sighted people who want to grab cash now, instead of changing their investments over the long term to renewables. So instead they’re lobbying to stop renewable energy….

    • Posted by God satan, at Reply

Vicky Mc nuclear and hydro power would be the best option at the moment.
solar is too expensive and creates way more pollution and turbines are unreliable

    • Posted by Dragon1717, at Reply

We will be on fossil fuels at least for the foreseeable future. So called “Clean Energy” is far too expensive to move to overnight. It will be a very long, drawn out and protected switch.

ShadowDurza Sure, just like tax industry stopped doing taxes on your computer?? Like Union Supermarkets stopped walmart? Like the horse industry stopped motor vehicles? Like the whaling industry stopped Standard Oil from lighting homes cheaply? Like dvd stores stopped streaming? Like supermarkets stopped fast food? Like oil industry stopped the Toyota Prius??? Moron. Nothing stops cheaper, because that is what we want. The only way to stop people is Govt force, backed up by a gun. Obey, or jail.
Progress is making things cheaper. People living better.

    • Posted by justmemadison, at Reply

B Marti…let’s say that’s true. Think about just how few people would have the means to do that. For all intent and purposes, it’s not very many. Now think that it’s that same minuscule segment of the population that basically owns our Government and are dictating how we live our lives. It’s easy to put all the blame on them — their lack of humanity is vile, at best. However, what about all the millions and millions of people that are letting it happen. What’s their responsibility in this nightmare of inequality, stagnate wages, poverty, uneducated population, debt and deficits beyond imagination and seemingly a Republican party (currently holding the majority in all 3 branches of Government) intent on destroying every last safety net possible. Why are the American people so complacent in their discontent.

    • Posted by Memo C, at Reply

Ahmed Abdulrashid They really don’t. They have the money to buy better filtered oxygen if need be. *ESPECIALLY* if their bff gets the taxes reformed! They’ll probably find another planet and colonize. The rich will get ridiculously richer and the working class will be squeezed dry from little to nothing.

This is actually hilarious you even had the audacity to write this and for me to even explain this. You, on the other hand, need to be thinking tonight that if what you wrote here is true (libel) and, made a false report, I will make sure to request discovery and a subpoena for your temporary detainment and any liability/defamation and summary judgement; regardless if you’re in the U.S. or Canadian territories.

Saurabh Kudterkar Not necessarily. Pipelines such as the $100 billion Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline (Iraq-Turkey route connection) are sabotaged on an hourly basis. Having a firm background and my first Associates degree in Fire Science, Arson Investigation, we were taught to never settle for easy, cookie-cutter explanations. TransCanada is leading this investigation and will pinpoint the source. It could be anything, we just don’t know for sure, yet. There are six motives to any arson case: vandalism; thrill seeking; concealment of a crime; Profiting from insurance money or property; revenge; attention seeking or satisfying a “hero complex”; *politics*; mental illness (pyromania), this last one is very interesting, where an arsonist sets a blaze and waits nearby (usually two to three blocks max from the conflagration) for the local fire department to respond with lights & sirens and contain it. You cannot rule out any human tampering as this awesome project has gained so much attention from emotional charged individuals.

To be fair Net, Canada gave $3.3 billion in subsidies to gas and oil companies. So it’s not like Canada’s not in the pockets of these companies as well.

    • Posted by Net Hoser, at Reply

Yeah, we’re one of the biggest oil producers in the world. That said, there’s no denying the Canadian government works FOR the Canadian people. Tar sands are a black mark on us though.

    • Posted by Jay Gutschenritter, at Reply

Challenger was the O-rings in the sense that o-rings are what failed, but it wasn’t anything to do with an improper installation or even a mechanical failure really, it was a launch during freezing temperatures which are known to affect the performance of rubber parts in engines. Which itself you can equally call a bad call by NASA and an oversight due to the rarity of freezing temperatures in Florida making it a generally superfluous consideration in the first place.
