Sen. Barbara Mikulski, Rep. Steny Hoyer and other members of Maryland’s Congressional delegation hosted a Twitter town hall today to discuss with constituents the impact of sequestration cuts. Plenty were happy to have the attention of their representatives and sent the #AskMDDems hashtag trending.

Today at 4pm I’ll join members of MD Delegation in holding Twitter Town Hall on #sequester impact. Ask questions using hashtag #AskMDDems.

I’ll be joining the MD Delegation for a Twitter Town Hall today at 4PM to discuss sequestration. Submit qs by using #AskMDDems

— Steny Hoyer (@WhipHoyer) February 28, 2013

The town hall gave legislators one more opportunity to ramp up the sequestration scare campaign and parrot the president’s call for a “balanced approach.”

We need an alternative that features a balanced approach and more intelligent cuts. #stopthesequester #askmddems

Our budget requires a balanced approach w/sensible cuts & modest revenue increases. That’s the only way 2 get over this impasse. #AskMDDems

— Elijah E. Cummings (@ElijahECummings) February 28, 2013

#Sequester is a giant meat cleaver about 2 descend on core services for middle-class families that will make the economy worse. #AskMDDems

— Elijah E. Cummings (@ElijahECummings) February 28, 2013

BULLSHIT @elijahecummings: #Sequester is a giant meat cleaver about 2 descend on core services for middle-class families …#AskMDDems

If Michael Moore was our federal budget, the sequester would be like asking him to lose half a pound. Stop over reacting! #AskMDDems

— Tyler Demski (@where_DEM_SKIs) February 28, 2013

#askmddems This 2% cut is nothing. We need to cut about at least 40% more just to balance the Budget. How do you plan to do that?

— JM (@Carpe_Cervisia) February 28, 2013

RT @sparticus33w Why is a 2 percent tax increase on middle class OK, but 2 percent federal budget cut catastrophic?

— Elijah E. Cummings (@ElijahECummings) February 28, 2013

#askmddems Your “balanced” proposal increases taxes again. How about a plan to cut spending?

— Charles Arcadipane (@arcadipanec) February 28, 2013

How is it a balanced approach if you hike taxes and don’t really cut any spending? #AskMDDems

— Jim J (@anthropocon) February 28, 2013

.@senatorbarb We are already insolvent. No more BALANCED APPROACH, stop stealing from my kids! #AskMDDems

— WheresPatton (@FightinBluHen51) February 28, 2013

#AskMDDemsHow can you possibly think we do not have a spending problem? Do you realize taxes come from OUR money we EARN?

— Big E (@eric21146) February 28, 2013

Why do MD Democrats want to raise taxes to replace President Obama’s sequester when it was implemented to cut spending? #AskMDDems

— Matt Sauvage (@mattsauvage) February 28, 2013

#askmddems If you can not find $85billion to cut right now how do you plan to deal with the $1trillion deficit?

— JM (@Carpe_Cervisia) February 28, 2013

@whiphoyer Why can’t the sequester be averted without further tax increases?Obama already got his tax increase Time for cuts. #AskMDDems

— Jeremy Tucker (@DrJeremyTucker) February 28, 2013

And the questions kept coming.

When is the Senate going to pass a budget? #AskMDDems

— Matt Sauvage (@mattsauvage) February 28, 2013

Why did President Obama, whom you all support, endorse the sequester in the first place? #AskMDDems

— Matthew Newman (@MDMRN) February 28, 2013

Why did you exempt yourself from Obamacare? #AskMDDems

— Jim J (@anthropocon) February 28, 2013

Why do MD Democrats want to take more from hard working taxpayers when $2.2 billion was spent last year on cell phone giveaways? #AskMDDems

— Matt Sauvage (@mattsauvage) February 28, 2013

Why haven’t the MD Democrats voted for a replacement to President Obama’s sequester? #AskMDDems

— Rep. Andy Harris, MD (@RepAndyHarrisMD) February 28, 2013

How is it fair for middle class to lose 20% of our pay when Congress doesn’t meet their deadlines, and they still get paid? #AskMDDems

— Ashley Cannon (@AshleyECannon) February 28, 2013

MT @bettybutterly @askmddems What would happen if agencies cut spending on their own on the things that don’t hurt the economy? #AskMDDems

— Rep. John Sarbanes (@RepJohnSarbanes) February 28, 2013

— Twin66 (@Twin66) February 28, 2013

Sequestration was the topic of the hour, but the conversation briefly touched on the environment.

.@senatorcardin, why not clean up your campaign trash? That’s what friends are for. twitter.com/dennisthecynic… #AskMDDems

— Dennis (@dennisthecynic) February 28, 2013
