Chicago's Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, has a very fascinating take on the requirements required for pupils to graduate secondary school. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, the hosts of The Young Turks, talk about Rahm Emanuel's proposition. Inform us what you believe in the remark area below.

Read more right here:

" Chicago secondary school students may soon have to develop a prepare for their future in order to graduate.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel showed up on "CBS Today" on Wednesday to review his new proposal, which would call for students to create a post-high institution plan before obtaining a diploma.

Chicago would certainly be the initial city to embrace such a requirement if the step is approved by the city's board of education and learning.

" We reside in a time period where you earn just what you discover," Emanuel stated. "The institution system of K through 12 is not applicable to the world and the economic situation and also the world that our senior high school pupils are graduating to. So we're transferring to a pre-K to college model."

Under the proposition, all Chicago Public School pupils beginning with this year's freshman course would certainly have to reveal an approval letter to a four-year college, a community university, a profession college or apprenticeship, an internship, or a branch of the armed solutions in order to receive their secondary school diploma." *.

We have been at war for decades….glad you finally woke up!!!!

You did see the news today right?  Trump just started another war… on a rushed assumption… sound familiar?  War means big money for the right people, and those people hold a lot of sway over the government.

Let’s be real. For some kids, just graduating high school is a huge accomplishment and probably the highest level of learning they can hope to achieve. Turning these kids into becoming soldiers is insane punishment for not being college material.

Not at all but to tell poor kids because your parents can not afford college you will be forced to go into the military is MESSED UP..Typical rich person attitude…My Kids go to college while the poor peoples kids get to go to war

I have a better suggestion. We should make people who want to be in politics go to war. Not just enlist. They need to be in wars. Also, if you want to continue to be in US politics, you need to be in the US military, not in the Israeli Defense Force.

Jan Norman first off you took my first comment way too harshly as I do see we have a lot of commonalities. I said also I see where your comment was going as you said “paid the price”. You were the one that asked me about conservatives and then asked if I liked Steve Bannon so don’t say I was assuming anything about you. Your post wasn’t clear to me what type of politics you believe in just that you obviously do have opinions.
But I don’t think military experience is all one needs to lead this country as education in law, economics, and experience to mention a few in my opinion. Trump has no experience and it is so blatantly clear a president needs this and just because I dislike Trump doesn’t mean I’m a Hillary fanatic either. I think experience in some political office leaves a track record to judge by when electing especially when looking for corruption and corporate influencing. Unfortunately it seems when you make it to higher platforms in politics usually money is backing you, that’s when we need to find out who or back our own. Are you a veteran? Are military and ex-military I’m just wondering because I’m not too sure if they would be less willing to take us into war. I mean depending on positions, where they were fought, rank they served, and length the served they could have opinions, loyalties, grudges or goals that don’t fit into your ideology, right? I don’t like labels including political because people that vote for the same person or lean the same way are still individuals with many different views and opinions if you ask them anyway, though some people just vote for the same party and defend them to the death knowing they don’t believe in everything they do. I try to be a positive person and am very open minded, I liked what you said about RESPECT, because that’s exactly what I always say it’s so true! I might not agree with someone but mutual respect is what we need in this world to get along. Trolling is useless. I try to have discussions with respect whether I fully agree with someone or not. All this division is ridiculous when so many people have similarities that they often over look! I like how you threw in Healthcare! Yes healthcare for all !!! As far as this video goes start with total reform and improvements with K-12 in our public schools especially in urban communities that are becoming extinct! Charter Schools have low quality and regulations on education and America has been dumbing down our educational institutions for far too long, we need to rank higher in the world then we do today it’s insane! Free collage for all would be great too. I pay a lot of taxes but I wouldn’t mind so much if the government used our money right!!!

Can someone explain how this doesn’t violate the Americans with Disabilities Act?

    • Posted by Tyler Potts, at Reply

How would it? Americans with disabilities can participate in trades, and post high school education.

    • Posted by Fukken Saved, at Reply

More like people with disabilites, or at least the appearance thereof, won’t be able to ever get a diploma.

    • Posted by Tyler Potts, at Reply

I fail to see how that would still apply all universities, trade programs, and the military in some positions have to make accomodations for disabled persons who are qualified so I doubt a court would strike it down in a substantive due process challenge to this law. At rational basis a court would probably say that the means of requiring post high school education is rationally linked to the goal of ensuring student success, it would be one thing if the law expressly challenged disabilities.

    • Posted by Fukken Saved, at Reply

Strange, I remember being unemployed for 4 years, and nobody was making any accomodations for people that have difficulty standing at all.

Emanuel, or any mayor for that matter, does not have the authority to change or modify the requirements to receive a high school diploma that are set by they state.

      For now….

    • Posted by Terese Duffy, at Reply

Each states Department of Education is the governing body for all primary and secondary education and they alone sets the minimum requirements for graduation.  The local school boards/districts fall under the control of the DoE and are mandated to adhere to those requirements.  Any mayor literally has zero authority to change or modify anything the states DoE mandates.  He can say what ever he wants about what he would like to see but he can’t enact it.

Welcome to the High School to military pipeline. They must know less people want to go into the military now that people have seen how the government treats veterans. Overall maybe 10 to 20 percent of students get to go to college and the other 80 to 90 percent have to go into the military. BS We not giving these people the next generation to use as cannon fodder for their dam wars.

  9. Posted by Juwoki, at Reply

    Why stop there?
Let there be a law that everyone who wants to get married signs a pledge to have at least two children. If they don´t they would be automatically divorced after 5 years! Sounds stupid? Well, …..

    • Posted by Brianna Kubiwood, at Reply

Well if someone’s narrow mind thinks everyone can be either accepted into a college, trade school, or military after highschool then honestly I don’t think you could convince them that not everyone could abide by having 2 kids. It’s just tunnel vision on finding an easy solution to stopping gang growth. This just hurts the rich and savants the most. A lot of people I knew took a year off after high school and if you have any artistic talent, it’s better spend on a year off looking for connections rather then risking money on higher education for it.

So where are all of those Conservatives who always say, *_”Government shouldn’t be meddling in the lives of Americans?”_*

    • Posted by Ispike73, at Reply

You do realize that Emanuel is a Democrat?

    • Posted by Michael McClelland, at Reply

+Ispike73 *NO!,…YOU DON’T SAY?* _sarcasm_ What does Emanuel being a Democrat have to do with Conservatives bitching about the Government meddling and forcing things into their lives. He is part of the government is he not? Or does it only matter when the government is forcing *WHITE PEOPLE* to do something is when the government is overreaching, a bunch of inner-city kids, screw them right it doesn’t affect whitey.

This is as authotarian as it goes. They basically want to make sure you are obidient and then go up while everyone else gets thrown out. Who gets Bs and As? People who listen to and obey the orders of their teachers who are there because they obey the curriculas. If not? Then you go to the military and there you get taught to obey orders and accept hierarchies.

Misuse of the word “Impeach”   To impeach means to remove executive immunity and subject an elected official to public court for a crime.  This moron just needs to not be elected again.

    • Posted by Mat Broomfield, at Reply

That’s true, there are technical or specialist fields where a formal degree and the training that goes with it is essential… ish. I don’t know ho w transferable a degree is from one country to another. I suspect a medical degree from Uzbekistan is not as valued as one from London.

    • Posted by Astrid _, at Reply

+Mat Broomfield Well I studied a degree in Germany and got a job straight away when I went back to the UK so….

But yes, it evidently depends which country, and often what university you chose to study at.

I wonder if that will still be an option post-Brexit, and post Trump imposing ludicrous travel restrictions on people even from allied nations.
Also, perhaps Britain’s health care shortage may also be a factor.

What about my son with Autism? He may do well and go to college. I don’t know his desire to reach into the future, he’s in the moment. He is undeserving of a diploma he is working hard for? If he wants college we are there. He is 13 and terrified of college right now. It’s day to day.

    • Posted by Cruznick06, at Reply

Goat Rodeo Fiber Fiesta college can be great for people on the spectrum but it can be an uphill battle to find a school that will accommodate his needs. I personally wish I’d had a gap year to keep looking for the right fit instead of jumping in immediately.
