The mayor of Jackson Wyoming says we do not stay in a tyranny, as a result Trump picture does not have to hang in the Town Hall. John Iadarola, Hannah Cranston, and Kim Horcher, the hosts of The Young Turks, go over if this was the appropriate thing to do. Inform us what you believe in the comment area listed below.

" A Wyoming mayor's decision to remove pictures of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence from the city center as well as change them with a picture of a Native American principal has some area members up in arms.

Mayor Pete Muldoon of Jackson, Wyoming, guided community personnel to make the swap on June 5, stating there is no requirement to have a photo of the head of state presented in the building.

" When the Community Of Jackson determines to recognize such a dissentious individual, it is taking sides against a few of its residents," Muldoon said in the statement. "The Town Council has actually made no such decision, and also until and also unless it does, that sort of honor will not be presented."

What one of those things can’t be true at the same time?

    • Posted by kalzoa22, at Reply

Controversy Owl If people already respect you, then you shouldn’t need to demand. Just because you believe you deserve respect doesn’t mean you actually deserve it. The leader of North Korea had done absolutely nothing to deserve respect but he demands it from his citizens daily. Rule of thumb, generally if you’re a respectable person people will respect you without needing coerced into doing so.

    • Posted by Controversy Owl, at Reply

Is it plausibly true that you both shouldn’t have to demand respect and demand respect at the same time?

You know that I’m right deep down.

    • Posted by Sooner Arrow, at Reply

From my viewpoint, it appears that some the commenters are confusing/conflating basic human dignity with professional respect. Dignity is provided because every person has a *RIGHT* to exist and to chase their American Dream (refer to our great Constitution for more). Professional respect *_IS ALWAYS EARNED_*. Trump hasn’t earned this respect at all for the majority of Americans. He can turn it around but somehow, I don’t think he has requisite skills or non-sycophantic staff to accomplish this.

Nope, he was handed the presidency [like everything else he never worked for]. His comrades in the Electoral College appointed him.

How much respect did Obama get from republican local and state governments?

    • Posted by Jim is the man, at Reply

@Thoranzalar – No President’s picture should be in any public building. There should be a law against it while he’s in office. It’s a tacit political endorsement. The same should be true in military facilities: They need to be loyal to the CiC, but we’re not a dictatorship – we don’t need portraits of “Dear Leader” everywhere.

    • Posted by miapdx Portland, at Reply

Thoranzalar Vhazen We cannot support a lying, treasonous president. That be would unAmerican. I love my nation, and stand against the criminal element that is causing her and her people so much harm.

John Finlayson+ That doesn’t make any sense, fascism is far right system of government.

      Adoss shall rule all

No, it’s not. It’s just that the right does it more effectively.

    • Posted by Chris Hakala, at Reply

Zarion Wildclaw Fascism is strictly far right. It includes right-wing economic policies.

This is why someone cannot be both fascist and (authoritarian) communist.

Left-wingers can be authoritarian (although arguably most are not), but not fascist.

    • Posted by Moggie Mum, at Reply

Clayton Brown it would be unfair on the cancer!

Position, wealth, education or social position are never things that demand respect.
Respect is earned by actions, integrity, honesty end empathy.
Just because you are a president and wealthy does not mean you deserve respect.
Being an idiot is not something reserved for the poor etc.

    • Posted by Nancy Khouzam, at Reply

The mayor explained his logic perfectly: 1- Respect is earned, not demanded; 2- There is no rule that he/the city hall is obligated to put up X, Y, or Z’s picture; 3- He doesn’t feel obliged to put up the image of a most divisive character in the history of the American politics. Bravo, Mr. Mayor!

+seelcudoom1 that means anyone who landslides California and the northeast wins the presidency.
The current system may not be perfect but it makes small states matter. Or are you discriminating against small states? Guess rhe left is only interested in peoples rights when it is something they care about. Not the system as a whole.

    • Posted by pogo575, at Reply

It gives the few the power over the many. Is that democracy? The right wants one person to have more of a say over the lives of the many because of location. Only the republicans have benefited from the electoral map. Without it they would lose every election because a majority of the PEOPLE in the country are left of the center.

    • Posted by D Gray, at Reply

+pogo575 the same way Hillary gets elected in the primaries due to minorities that have no influence in their states in the general election… Ah the irony.
