I am so glad! I hope either a Justice Democrat or someone from the People’s Party runs in 2020. It’s our duty to defeat Trump and the Republicans in the next election.

    • Posted by MaGarthur, at Reply

It’s not happening by the next election. By all means build a third party but please don’t make the mistake again of voting third party next time. It will take longer than that to be viable.

    • Posted by LCarlTBM x, at Reply

*Corporate Democrats too. They will stand in the way trying to keep status quo.

Yes. Since Clinton the Democrats have been detrimental to the way the party started and intended. We need to BRING IT BACK TO IT’S BEGINNING. At least to the party of FDR and up until Carter. We don’t need to settle for the last 30 years of the Dems. There were a lot more years of the Dem party being for the workers, the unions and the people. I’m not opposed to a third party but we shouldn’t just let our Dem party go either. It doesn’t belong to the establishment. They think it does but there’s something wrong with people accepting that.

    • Posted by [Poli_Z] Gaming, at Reply

Jeri Rhea, we need to go on the offensive and do every possible solution. Retaking the Democratic Party from the establishment while simultaneously form an aggressive progressive third party. This is the only way. And if the establishment Dems go down fighting then so be it. It’s not going to be easy but it must be done.

    • Posted by Mark Green, at Reply

Yes, we can form a third party and if the Democrats insist on remaining corporatists we can just keep building. If, however, the Democrats see the writing on the wall and come hat in hand to get us back, we’ll talk.

We had a chance to change the face of the Democrat party but Hillary bought and paid for the DNC to stop that from happening

James Dore is such a blowhard. He has the intellectual rigor of a ten-year-old.
I don’t love compromise, but yes I will accept it when the alternatives are worse. Splintering the Left and abandoning a mature effort to outmaneuver the vile Republican agenda is throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

    • Posted by The Humanity, at Reply

And then Hillary lost and now she will never run for President again. Bernie, on the other hand, has a better chance of winning in 2020 more than any other politician in the country. Bernie may have lost the battle because it was rigged against him, but he’s winning the war. If he went to this new so called “People’s Party”, it would only cause him to lose in 2020. The People’s Party might be an okay idea for smaller elections, but it will almost certainly split the vote between Democrats and the new party candidates. Jimmy Dore references Lee Carter, who won in Virginia against a Republican, but he doesn’t mention that a Democratic Socialist was actually able to win because he ran as a Democrat even if he was cut off from the DNC.

    • Posted by JoeyFiveandDimes, at Reply

We can do both. Take over weak Democratic county orgs.  Where the old turd Whig Democrats stay in control, run opposition progressives against them at all levels. Make them spend money foolishly ( which they will ) They hate that.

Yet, when we talk about 1 PEOPLES party, the comments say “booohoooo they sound like commies.”

    WAKE UP.

    • Posted by tong tong, at Reply

The reason “commies” is a bad word is because the government use totalitarian tactics in order to achieve such stateless, moneyless, classless society. That kind of society was never achieved, and it’s the totalitarian tactics that people hate.

    • Posted by kevin shaughnessy, at Reply

i dont care what the hell they sound like. i care that theyre splitting the vote on the left and practically giving trump a win. the only way that we win is by primarying the corporate democrats like feinstein

    • Posted by Sam Parrish, at Reply

tong tong You’re absolutely right. That’s why it’s important not to use the words “communism” or “socialism” when referring to totalitarianism, as not to confuse people who don’t know the difference.

I’ve been using the term ‘Civilizationalist’ to describe my political prescriptions. Avoids labels that are practically meaningless as the language has been corrupted.

@Cool Koensiegg, I agree, they are try to come across as different than other media but they are just in it for the money, anyways, that has nothing to do with the point of my comment

TheUhhoh for me there was to much lack of support for the third parties, the main problem is that nobody was campaigning for the third parties during Obama, now we are starting earlier we could finally see some chsnge

Yeah, I got a lot of flak for “wasting my vote”… Thing is I live in a red state so that entire argument falls on deaf ears. Sure, we can contribute towards the useless popular vote, but honestly we have zero say in government; this state is guaranteed voting Republican whether we vote or not.

5 minutes ago – Not sure how you got to that conclusion, seeing as how communism is scarcely mentioned in it at all (I believe literally twice, vaguely, in passing), and in general is a ideal rather than anything that has ever been achieved, but if you really read it (and frankly, i am skeptical) I commend you for at least taking the analysis of capitalism seriously.

This new party is a waste of time in our current system, until we change how the system works there will be no 3rd party that has a chance in hell. Why not beef up the green party instead of creating another party.

    • Posted by P1ranh4, at Reply

The greens’ strategy is wrong anyway because you have to build a movement from the bottom up.
At this point new parties only weaken either of the two parties until the weakened one swallows up the new party/movement and adds some of its messaging to its own platform.

This process is inefficient, takes long and doesn’t change the corrupt nature of the main parties.

    • Posted by ToBe Fair, at Reply

if we don’t split into a thousand pieces then how would GOP trump mercers kochs goldman play their divide and rule tricks on us? i mean, imagine we have to listen and help each other and be strong and united liberals for once… unthinkable!

    • Posted by MaoTseFunkadelic, at Reply

ToBe Fair You are supporting the GOP trump mercers kochs goldman by that logic. If you sacrifice your purpose and policies simply for ‘unity’ to get elected, the purpose of getting elected itself falls away. As put by Robert Reich: “What’s the point in getting elected when you have no mandate to do anything?”.

And that is the Dem/Rep strategy, the REAL divide and rule in the US: keep working people polarized on social issues and identity politics for votes, and policy is determined within the parameters of what is acceptable to the rich (and contests between them) funding them. Fight about transgender bathrooms, affirmative action, and wars on christmas etc., and ignore social services, minimum wages, trade deals, criminal justice reform and actual war.

The US needs to abolish the electoral college and exorcise money from campaigns to dismantle its Faustian Bargain logic. The Dems and Repubs will never do that, because it guarantees them alternating office space.

But you are right that hail-mary third-party presidential campaigns will not do the job. That’s why, personally, I think it needs to start with third part(ies) taking the legislature on the common understanding that, whatever their other differences, they will fight first to overhaul the election system completely.

I love Bernie Sanders, but the biggest mistake progressives are making is focusing too much on one man.
Unfortunately, Sanders is a lost cause because he still thinks he can turn a party as corrupt as Democrats around.
His ideology is alive and well among plenty of progressive candidates.
Never make it about one person.
