The first things I’d save would be animals besides my family of course. I’m sorry, but that’s just how I feel.

After reading what some of this crowd have to say, I don’t mind admitting that I would definitely choose my dog, or perhaps any old dog, over them.

It depends on the human family member. In some cases I love my dog more.

I would leave you behind on principle becasue anyone who rationalizes the world into an “us vs them” mentality is an idiot and a moron and one less of those in the world makes it a better place.

As someone who has both human and animal kids it is exactly the same! Humans thinking they are worth more is just social conditioning …

    • Posted by TheWarrior1986, at Reply

westingtyler ideas no it’s social conditining and culture that has convinced right-wing losers like you that human lives are somehow worth more than animals. Kinda like how your fictional flag/country is better than every one else’s, as is your ethnicity etc. Insecure and egotistical people like to tell themselves they are better than others, it’s really quite simple. That’s how identity politics works. Divide and conquer the masses by turning the ignorant right-wing fascist nazis against everybody/everything else. Works like a charm. Hateful bastards

    • Posted by B Marti, at Reply

TheWarrior1986 You can love you pet all you want but when forced into choosing your pets needs or your child’s needs it’s obvious which is going to come first. If you can afford to take care of both then great but if you fall on hard times and it becomes hard to feed the family you will end up dropping fido off at the nearest shelter. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just in denial. Also, this has nothing to do with nationalism or racism you twit.

    • Posted by Tyger Tyger, at Reply

As I see my animals as my kids as well this is a really bad example. As someone who has faced the death of a ton of human and non human loved ones from extreme situations I will tell you this- who ever is closet and savable by proximity. The perverse satisfaction that you Sophie’s choice people get says however a lot more about you then it says about me.

They say “Serial killers usually start with animals”, but whereas I COULD cause harm to the average person without guilt… I couldn’t harm a critter.

Don’t worry, I still wont do any such thing. Dying doesn’t scare me half as much as prison.

However, I wont deny that after stories of our trash blanketing an area the size of Texas in our oceans and poisoning our water, and the fact that we humans, by our nature, just CAN’T stop shouting “libtard” or “cuckservative” at one another long enough to clean up our own damn mess, I feel my contempt for my society is JUSTIFIED.

The difference between cats and dogs is irrelevant in this situation. It’s the family pet, it doesn’t matter if a cat loves you less than a dog, if you love it then you will want to save it.

The pets when left alone could probably fend for them themselves better on their own. People should have taken their pets to a safe place before the storm came.

    • Posted by armlovesmetal, at Reply

Thank goodness there is another person in the world that thinks like me. I would not and could not leave my pets behind. I have 6 cats and 2 dogs ranging from age of 19.5 years old – 9 months old who I love so much. If we had to evacuate, I have enough wet and dry food, a first aid kit and coolers for medicines and water. I also have 2 big 2.5 gallon water bottles at home all the time and canned soups to bring with us. We have carriers for each cat. I would want to die if I left them behind. The grief, guilt and depression would eventually kill me.

    • Posted by deprofundis, at Reply

Same, I’d risk everything for my beloved cat as well! To complainers, this isn’t about choosing family over pets. Escape together, don’t abandon either. In the extremely rare case where you’d have to make a choice, you’d do what you need to in that moment, regardless of premeditation.

Except that cats and dogs can swim, and cats don’t even need to be supervised to go to the bathroom, cover it up, and then clean themselves. Hmmm, I think the only similarities to an eternal toddler are eternal cuteness, innocence, and smaller size. XD
