The International Basketball Federation has altered it's policies to enable women to use hijabs when they play worldwide. Brett Erlich, Kim Horcher, as well as Amberia Allen, the hosts of The Young Turks, talk about. Inform us just what you believe in the remark area listed below.

" After 3 years of ask for adjustment, the International Basketball Federation validated policies on Thursday to permit athletes to wear typical spiritual headwear during video games.

FIBA, basketball's worldwide controling body, had actually been considering the modification because the Qatari women's basketball group withdrew from the Oriental Games in September 2014 due to the fact that players were not permitted to use hijabs on the court. FIBA had actually likewise protected against Sikh men from wearing turbans and Jewish males from wearing yarmulkes during games.

FIBA instituted a two-year test duration in 2014, during which some professional athletes were given exceptions to put on religious headwear throughout video games." *.

There should be an official day in the US where every woman has to wear the headscarf to show solidarity to muslims. They are a minority that is still very much targeted by the media and this needs to change.

    • Posted by Talha Javaid, at Reply

w9 s2 If a woman don’t want to wear hijab she don’t have to, its that simple. And there is no such thing as beating it stoning her. Islam strictly condemn beating or stoning or such rubbish.

    • Posted by TheKalimanMX, at Reply

Even if their fathers and husbands allow them to not wear a hijab if they go outside they will get harrassed by the muslim morality police (muṭawwi) who enforce sharia law.

  2. Posted by jay shawn, at Reply

The left is normalizing hijab in hte west, while real muslims in muslim countries are harassed, raped, and killed for not wearing one. How pathetic. Real patriarchy. REal rape culture, but shhhhhhhh. we can NEVER be critical of Islam because white losers who hate themselves think no one but whites are to be criticized.

So women have to cover up to not tempt the men to sin. I’m a firm progressive, and the day when Muslim men wear hijab is the day I’ll buy into the idea that hijab is simply “faith” and not a way for men to control women.

+Saif Ahmed: Muslim MEN have freedom. What do they do with that freedom? Do they wear hijab and cover themselves up from head to toe and insist on staying a virgin until marriage? Hell no. They have freedom and use that freedom to NOT cover up and they try getting laid. Muslim women DO NOT have this freedom. To deny this is just ridiculous. Anyone with eyes can see that these restrictions men put on women are archaic and ancient customs meant to dominate and control women.

Hijab is not religious or faith based. It is cultural.

    • Posted by Talha Javaid, at Reply

Jim it is actually in the Qur’an to wear hijab In Chapter 24 Al Nur verse 31 it says: .and not display their beauty except what is apparent, and they should place their hijab/khumur

    • Posted by Jim Dandy, at Reply

It says they should cover their breasts – that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons

The hijab is not directly Quranic, no, but it is absolutely Islamic. To deny this would be the equivalent of saying Mike Pence’s electroshock therapy has nothing to do with Christianity because you can’t find me the line in the bible condoning electroshock therapy. Norms and traditions that arise cross-culturally as a direct result of legitimate interpretations of religious texts are and have always been considered part of the religion. Not driving on the Sabbath would be another example of this. There were no cars at the time of the bible yet religious Jews cross-culturally do not drive on Saturdays as it’s considered a violation of the rules regarding what you can do during Sabbath. No one in their right mind would pretend that this is not Judaism, but is merely cultural.

A hijab during a basketball game could be a safety issue. If some gets a hand caught in another player’s hijab a n injury could occur. It is the sort of thing you want to experiment with and examine before you jump all in. It amazes me how these three in the video expect instant capitulation to whatever the Muslim teams want.

    • Posted by Mephistahpheles, at Reply

      So everyone should play naked?

    • Posted by Joel Medina, at Reply

lol exactly the thumbnail speaks for itself. Like do these people even play sports? Why would you want to inconvenience the other players by wearing that while playing a sport or game just to make a political or religious statement?

    • Posted by BONZO KILBOURN, at Reply

@ Mephistapheles No, everyone should not play naked, but the question of what happens if and when one woman gets tangled in another woman’s scarf is legit. Do you understand how much contact happens in a basketball game? Do you understand that people get hit in the face all the time in a basketball game? Are you not concerned at all about extra clothing surrounding a woman’s hair, head, neck, and face when there is lots of contact to those areas?

    • Posted by Mephistahpheles, at Reply

“Are you not concerned at all about extra clothing ….” No, not at all. What happens when one player get’s tangled up in another player’s shorts? shirt? helmet?

If the problem is clothing, then the solution is nudity…or fair rules.

The rules laid out here are similar to those that apply to ANY clothing in sport, as they should.

“…you’re fine with someone doing it to a woman” No, absolutely not. I certainly don’t think so, didn’t say so, and don’t think anyone here said so, either.

I object to other people ordering women to wear, or not wear, anything.

In some cases, there’s a conflict of priorities (say, turban vs. hardhat) that’s more difficult to resolve. In basketball, the ONLY conflict is between fashion and religion, making it a TRIVIAL conflict to solve, which they did.

Isn’t this precious? The little death cultists get to play sports while wearing their medieval garbs of oppression and misogyny. What’s next, fashion models in burqas? Yes, that would really bring multiculturalism into the mainstream. Who’d want to look at a beautiful white western woman on the cover of Vogue when we could see some anonymous Muslim broad in the Islamic cloak of death?

    • Posted by Dustin Zilbauer, at Reply

+shizunne I couldn’t care less about what the bible says about anything. Christianity is as false as Islam, but it doesn’t even approach how detrimental Islam is.

+Dustin Zilbauer Well at least you are intelligent enough to treat all religions equally, even if you appear to hate them all with a burning passion. However, you have yet to answer how long it takes a person to die of dehydration in a prison cell, or are you still working on that?

  13. Posted by Red Socialist, at Reply

Why would anyone be upset about this? Its headwear, it doesn’t affect anything. Its not an advantage or disadvantage in the game, I don’t see a problem with it. They can wear it, or not wear it. It should be up to individual players.

    • Posted by Naya M, at Reply

Red Socialist What are you even talking about? The video states that a female Qatari basketball team had to pull out of an international tournament because they weren’t allowed to wear the hijab. They didn’t suddenly start wearing it now that they are allowed to. Even in Islam if you are in a situation where you have to unnecessarily compromise your religion, then you need to take yourself out of that situation.

    • Posted by Red Socialist, at Reply

+Naya M They weren’t forced out, that would be discrimination. They wouldn’t play because they weren’t allowed to have them. Your argument was Islam forces to wear them, when the reality is they were being forced by officials NOT to wear them.

    • Posted by Naya M, at Reply

Red Socialist I thought I made it pretty clear in my comment that the Qatari team pulled out on their own because they weren’t going to compromise their hijab. You were the one initially trying to argue that they were playing without it on and since no one did anything to them, that is proof that the hijab is optional. Either way we’re just arguing semantics at this point. People can wear whatever they want but it still doesn’t change the fact that the hijab is a religious obligation with consequences if one doesn’t wear it.

    • Posted by The Worm, at Reply

I first heard that question answered by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the ex-Muslim from Somalia. Islam is regarded by the left as being a religion of brown people – because of that it must be DEFENDED by the left. Christianity is seen as a religion of white people, therefore IT must be attacked. Never mind what the realities are, it’s all about PERCEPTION for leftists.

Meanwhile in Iran, Iranian women are challenging their laws by posting pictures of themselves in public without the compulsory hijab, while risking to get arrested by the morality police.

    • Posted by P.S S, at Reply

Ibn Muhammad I have never said in my comment that we should ban the hijab in “the west”, never!! I just wanted to take up the situation in Iran, the damage the Islamic republic has done in over 30 years now. I don’t care if all the women in your family wear Islamic dress, they are free to chose whatever they want to wear, I think that is amazing! But that’s the whole purpose of my comment and the whole problem! I am going to phrase my opinion like you’re five, read carefully: Hijab should not be a compulsion, it should be a choice. In Iran, it is a compulsion. In Iran, unlike your family, every woman is FORCED to wear an Islamic dress code that usually consists of a long “mantoo” and a hijab”. If they don’t, they risk to get arrested by the morality police and get up to 60/70 lashes. Just recently and Iranian woman was harassed by the morality police whom took her documents and attempted to run her over when she demanded her papers back. This is the definition of barbarism, if you want to minimize it or even defend it, go on, but you’ll never win.
