If it was Obama or Clinton’s head, the right wouldn’t have been as vocal about it.

Also, the right are objectively the bad guys in this whole conflict so that automatically makes it worse.

rouge1ful, what Nugent said is similar to what Madonna said. It was metaphoric. What Nugent said is similar to someone saying “we are going to slaughter them” to an opponent. It is metaphoric. You are defending Madonna because she is on the left and you are an extreme liberal. As a moderate I see little differences in what Madonna and Nugent said.

What Griffin did was much more direct and graphic. That is why she was criticized so much.

    • Posted by rouge1ful, at Reply

+whyamimrpink78 Madonna did not openly threaten people’s lives Ted Nugent did and did it multiple times.

    • Posted by whyamimrpink78, at Reply

rouge1ful Nugent didn’t threaten anyone either. He was being metaphoric like Madonna was. But if you are going to claim that Nugent was threatening people then so was Madonna as blowing up the white house puts many lives in danger

+whyamimrpink78 “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” -Ted Nugent 2012

Oh yeah this is so metaphorical. Even though he didn’t carry out his stupid threat it’s still a threat

I was being sarcastic. He’s pretty much the biggest nobody now, who may have been somebody 50 years ago. I don’t even see why he’s relevant. Any decent human being accepts that he’s a piece of crap. We should hold Kathy Griffin to higher standards than we do some default low life.

    • Posted by rob smith, at Reply

Well, you know how it is. No one could really tell how big a dirt bag this guy was way back then.

  6. Posted by Ronin Dave, at Reply

So can CNN explain to me how Kathy Griffin posts a figurative display of a beheaded Trump and gets fired and ostracized publicly meanwhile Ted Nugent threaten to literally kill the President and the Secretary of State and yet he got invited to the White House? Remember when conservatives kicked up a storm over a controversial rapper being invited to the White House by the Obamas? Conservatives know no shame.

Liberals have got to stop being weak and throwing each other under the bus every 5 minutes. Conservatives are bullies who have no principle. They don’t care if you say you’re sorry. They only they will respect is a sharp cuff upside their head and being told to stand in the corner. And that’s what we need to do before it’s too late.

    • Posted by whyamimrpink78, at Reply

What Nugent said is metaphoric. Say during a campaign speech a candidate says “we are going to slaughter them this election” about an opponent. Is that violent or metaphoric?

What Griffin did was more direct and graphic. There is a clear difference.

    • Posted by Ronin Dave, at Reply

Ah, the disingenuous whyamimrpink rears his head! Did they ban over at the other channel? What Ted said was chop their heads off and said Obama should suck on his machine gun while saying he would be dead or in jail if Obama got re-elected. There is a clear difference. No one seriously thinks Griffin is going to behead Trump but given the guns and rhetoric Nugent sounds like a typical rightwing terrorist who shoots up a Sikh Temple mistaking it for a mosque.

  14. Posted by hermenutic, at Reply

violence only makes violence, those who live by the sword die by the sword. Unfortunately the violent often take a lot of bystanders with them. We need to stop thinking of violence as a means of achieving our goals.

    • Posted by hermenutic, at Reply

Most of the world’s violence today is created by the impulse of someone wanting what someone else has. We call this violence war. To support this violence we have an entire industry which determines how the economy will be organized.

Violence takes many forms, the most simple is the denial of choice the most extreme the taking of life by fiat. Unless the economy is based on peace instead of war it is unlikely violence will cease.

It should be possible to develop a theory of capitalism that utilizes peace in the same way it utilizes war to make its wealth. We should begin thinking about making that kind of change and then use that as a starting point to rethink how society should be organized.

    • Posted by hermenutic, at Reply

Social change is imperative. Authority must be in the hands of the people and the politicians kept on a short leash. Otherwise you have what you have right now . Most of us are disturbed about the current mess.

    • Posted by Harry Stoddard, at Reply

I don’t see how capitalism in any form is going to end war. Capitalism thrives on war and theft.

    • Posted by hermenutic, at Reply

Capitalism itself is only what men make of it. We have decided to make war of it. Suppose instead of capitalism dedicated to destroying societies it was dedicated to improving them. In the old days such a thing was called ‘re-tooling’. Why cannot we make as much money and produce as much benefit to society by a capitalist impulse structured to produce benefit to society? I’m guess I’m asking why is war the go to money making venture? (edited for clarity)

    • Posted by Harry Stoddard, at Reply

You could say the same about feudalism or slavery. As Kropotkin said, if men were perfect, capitalism would be a fine system. No one would exploit one another, though they possessed the means to do so. No one would erect mansions while people lived in slums and on streets. No one would make wars while others starved.

I’m not really sure what to make of your penultimate sentence, but as I see it, capitalism won’t accrue money and benefits to society (whose society?) but to individuals who get ever wealthier and more powerful and are needful of more and more violence to protect their wealth and power and to get more of it. War opens access to natural resources, labor, markets, and control of markets, all of which a system based on irrational, infinite growth requires.

Nugent threatened to shoot Obama with a machine gun. Not art.

    • Posted by Jim Hesterman, at Reply

Sure.. you can make that connection… but beheadings have been happening for centuries. What she wearing a headscarf/mask? What she green screened into the desert somewhere in the middle east? Clearly not a threat. Controversial art? Yes… threat? No.

Why can’t blackface be art? If I paint my face black and walk around holding a watermelon and a bucket of fried chicken, can I just claim that i’m an artist? I’m asking seriously.

+Chunk Oooger No, not at all… When was the last time you heard about a liberal commit acts of violence towards other races just because they are not white?? You havnt because we dont, we protest, thats as far as we go… Far right wingers will not only commit violence, they behave like terrorists and then act as though they are civil in society.. All you do is deflect responsibility while at the same time tell liberals to be responsible for our own actions, while you dont do that yourselves… Look in the mirror and stop behaving like ISIS, by commiting violence just because you don’t agree with some people’s lifestyles.
