Hey Confederates: your side lost. Yankees kicked your traitor slaver evaluates. Manage it. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Inform us exactly what you assume in the remark area below.

" Corey Stewart, the previous chairman of Head of state Donald Trump's Virginia project and a present prospect for Virginia governor, has angrily snapped after finding out that New Orleans has eliminated a monolith dedicated to the Confederacy.

Per Right Wing Watch, Stewart stated that the elimination of the monolith belonged to a victory for Islamic State, although that its elimination had nothing to do with religious beliefs.

" It appears ISIS has won," Stewart composed on Twitter. "They are taking apart historic monuments in New Orleans currently as well. It should end. Despicable!"

The monument in question was the Liberty Monument, which was erected in 1891 to commemorate an uprising by a white supremacist paramilitary company in 1874. In 1932, an engraving was added to the statuary that spoke about the value of acknowledging "white preeminence in the South," although this inscription was covered over in 1993." *.

The confederates rebelled against the United States, they were un-American why are their monuments and, statues of them?

    • Posted by crimsonstorm34, at Reply

They stand as a reminder of the past, the same can be said of the concentration camps still standing over in Europe.   Regardless of whether you think they were un-American or not, they signed slips reinstating them as Americans.   Sadly a lot of people don’t realize that one.

    • Posted by Collin Lewis, at Reply

David Granstrand A large majority of Southerns didn’t even have slaves, it was just the owners really. Still terrible for those that supported the Confederacy for slavery reasons.

    • Posted by Cheep Cheeps, at Reply

+crimsonstorm34 Lincoln should have created Nuremberg trials and executed all these traitors.

You guys do realize that the KKK is basically the White Christian version of the brown Muslim ISIS? These Confederate supporting loonies want to make America a theocracy, talk about hypocrites and irony!

Still trying to play up the KKK to continue to fan the flames of your Identity Politics game I see. Do you even know how many KKK members there are in 2017 America? In actuality the much larger problem is the Ethnic Power / Ethnic Identity groups on college campuses today, BLM, La Raza and the like,.

Isis is (allegedly,) anti-american..the Confederacy was fighting AGAINST “America” .. aren’t they the same ?

    • Posted by Phantom1op, at Reply

and I never said anything historically revisionist, now we are back to where we started.

    • Posted by Phantom1op, at Reply

+Pranay: no it is not revisionism, it was for what they felt the U.S. really stood for, so when the rest of the U.S. started moving away from things such as slavery they interpreted that as an affront to what they believed the U.S. really stood for so yes they did fight out of love of the U.S. just what they felt the U.S. should be.

but I guess in the modern world of alternative facts, anything that does fit our predetermined opinions about [insert historical and/or political event here] is revisionism now, huh?

    • Posted by GWOS, at Reply

The confederates were terrorists and traitors. Anyone who supports them are traitors. Time to burn every confederate flag and get rid of them.

This is precisely the reason I tell all new atheists to be careful about figures like Sam Harris who insist our collective focus should be on Islam, when the reality as Americans is that in our country it is Christian theocracy that poses the threat to secularism and separation of church and state. It’s the religion that most zealots and government officials in our country embrace, and it’s the religion with the most influence in people.

All religions should be fought against with education and truth and the Constitution.

    • Posted by Harmony Alexandria, at Reply

Sam Harris doesn’t have a problem with anything, as long as the great white dope remains ontop of the social pyramid…which is why he and his followers are damned to be LOSERS.

Mike Lofky  Its not erasing history to remove monuments that deify traitors and slave owners you idiot.

  10. Posted by Amanda Bertelsen, at Reply

How about adding a few monuments for context. For example, you could have a monument at Monticello to Thomas Jefferson’s erect penis and it’s repeated use in the rape of his slaves. Or maybe a big ole pile of bronze skulls at the beginning or end of the trail of tears. How about a huge needle shaped obelisk dedicated to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study?

    • Posted by Ian Arbues, at Reply

      1. Jefferson didn’t rape his slaves. He certainly had an affair with Sally Hemings. That’s such a lazy meme-based argument ignoring other things you could actually critique like the war against the Barbary pirates.
      2. As far as the Tuskegee experiment or the Trail of tears, i agree, it’s outrageous that no one cares about them.

    • Posted by Amanda Bertelsen, at Reply

Ian- Jefferson had sex with his slave Sally Hemings. Could she have not consented to have sex with him?

I guess you could argue that she was property and therefore under law unable to be raped by her owner, but can someone have an affair with property?

  11. Posted by Jacob Johnston, at Reply

I say get rid of the monument, BUT don’t just throw it out, put it in a museum. Few things are worse than destroying a work of art, and as despicable as the subject matter is, that monument is a work of art and also a valuable piece of history as a lesson for the future. If it’s on public lands, it represents that the powers that be are still in agreement with the monument, but in a museum it can exist without supporting the confederacy.

TL;DnR don’t destroy art even if it’s heinous

    • Posted by TheRefractingOne, at Reply

      Completely agree.

they still have a racist attitude in the south I Hated all the confederate flags they scream about heritage but all I could she was them brandishing their shame and treason they are horrible hypocrites with hypocritical values impoverished lives and they’ve made a hell of their states I would say they deserve it but many are either brainwashed are know better and are simply stuck in the area with no way out they try to reduce your education and culturally inhibit you to live or survive anywhere else in the world

    • Posted by Eliza Miller, at Reply

Philip Hall it’s not just the South but rural America period. I’ve seen confederate flags on cars, hats, etc here in Western, NY, which is just as hickish as the Deep South. Also Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania just to name a few.

    • Posted by Shiela Ingram, at Reply

Dragon1717 how is it not. it is exactly the same thing except in Germany as jew living there im pretty sure they dont have to deal with swastikas being sold on shirtsl or as bumper stickers. the german government looked back realized that the holocaust was wrong have done everything to do to eradicate from their past.

    • Posted by TheRefractingOne, at Reply

Eh, I’m of the mind that it wouldn’t be appropriate to celebrate the Confederacy (for obvious reasons), but destroying historical monuments isn’t a great thing to do either. The Romans amd the Norse were barbarians (at least by today’s standards), but we don’t destroy their monuments because of that – because we value history and preserving it’s monuments.
