" A huge protest versus Texas' new sanctuary city regulation on Monday disrupted the last day of the state Legislature's normal session.

Texas state Rep. Matt Rinaldi (R) and numerous Democrats reportedly exchanged mad words on the state House floor, according the Texas Tribune.

Numerous members claimed that Rinaldi informed a group of Hispanic legislators that he had called Immigration as well as Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities on the militants.

" He came near us and claimed, 'I rejoice I just called ICE to have all these individuals deported,'" state Rep. Cesar Blanco (D) told the Texas Tribune.

Rinaldi stated he called ICE due to the fact that he didn't recognize the best ways to manage the big objection."

FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS IMPORTANT! UNLESS IT’S PEOPLE WHO DISAGREE WITH ME!
-Motto of the conservatives, alt-rights and SJWs

    • Posted by Kawiboy, at Reply

@Nikola _”As far as freedom of speech and being permitted to voice one’s opinion, those are universally recognized democratic rights and are generally held to be applicable to anyone, anywhere”_
Try exercising this “anyone, anywhere” democratic right in a crowded theater or at the local public library and you will learn a quick lesson on its limitations. Your rights do not supersede the equally protected rights of others. In a democracy, the Government is representing the people and disrupting the affairs of government is a crime. If not, a handful of special interests would be able to disrupt anything any everything under the guise of “freedom of speech.” In other words, *be careful what you wish for and always think through the consequences when the same “rights” will be used by those you disagree with!*

Thomas Allen all citizens have the 1st Amendment rights of peaceable protest and petition the government for a redress of grievances.
No Public Official can call for an anti-citizen, privatize the Public assembly safe space so they can act as tyrants on the Public dime; meaning your wrong.

I didn’t realize it was necessary to specify that I was speaking generally, apparently I was wrong. On this case, specifically: protesters were neither in a public library or a crowded theater, they were outside in the street. Debates in the House were able to proceed without interference from the protest. It’s difficult to see how this translates into “stopping the affairs of government”. Keep in mind I’m not debating the government’s power to remove illegal immigrants from national territory. In terms of free speech, however, whether they’re illegal or not, the immigrants have the right to voice their opinion, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights cited above. And for the record, I absolutely support that people who disagree with me should have the right to voice their opinion, that’s the most fundamental principle of democracy.

Brian Williamson.  You are 100% wrong.  I’ve been a member of a city council.  If people were shouting and protesting to the point that we couldn’t hear each other, that would be a crime.  The law says it is. That is why city councils give people a 3 minute time to express their opinions during citizens comments.  It I not a time for discussion of agenda items.  It is simply a time to bring matters of public concern to the city council.  Once the council starts discussing public business, the people in the gallery need to be quiet.  For that matter, there are rules for when and how a representative can speak.  If they speak at the same time, they are out of order.  They have to be recognized by the chair first.  I was escorted out of a public assembly one time by a police officer for merely clapping 5 times in a pause during the public discussion, in the same meeting where the superintendent allowed an extended standing ovation for himself.  He was a dictator and he called them as he saw it, but technically, my clapping was a disruption.  I suggest you look at some laws restricting the freedom to disrupt a public assembly.  You will find that they pass constitutional muster.  I was ordered off of a public square once for merely having in my hands some literature that I had not even distributed yet.  I know my free speech rights were violated and I pushed the point with carefully drafted letters that were laying the groundwork for a lawsuit.  The city council recognized the error and passed an ordinance to address the issue.  I used my knowledge of the law to gain leverage to make sure the ordinance did not violate the free speech rights of anyone in the future.  I made my point and I stood up for fee speech irights.  I know the law.  I’ve done extensive legal research on that topic.  There is a right way and a wrong way to exercise one’s free speech rights.  These protesters in the gallery of the Texas House were out of order and were nothing but rabble-rousers and law breakers.

once again the 1st amendment is getting trampled on. hey trump supporters do you care yet because this can and will effect you as well the next time you think the government is doing something intolerant

    • Posted by Sterling Ajax, at Reply

Do you think that the 1st amendment gives people immunity from being punished after they commit a crime, so long as they declare they’ve committed that crime during a protest?

    • Posted by whyamimrpink78, at Reply

J Rangel, there are laws that if you break them you can lose your rights immediately. If I were to go on a shooting spree my right to live will be immediately taken away and the cops can kill me on spot. If you break enough driving laws your right to pursue happiness will be taken away and you can’t drive.

    • Posted by Thomas Allen, at Reply

This is not a free speech issue.  No one.  I repeat, no one, has a free speech right to shout down a public assembly.  Protest in the street all you want, but once you are in an assembly where public business is taking place, you have no right to speak unless you are invited to speak.  For that matter, no legislator has a right to speak unless he follows parliamentary procedure and is recognized by the chair.

Still its sort of funny. Has a sign here to stay looks foreign protesting in Texas. Gets ICE called people act shocked? ICE has an onus to detain them until their identity and status is verified. If they are legit what is their argument if they are fully not meant to be there they will get taken away. So what was the end of the joke? Were they citizens complaining about freedom? Or foreigners complaining about the lack of? There are better things to protest. Say maybe the place these people need to run from. That helps both sides. I dont care either way as long as people follow legal channels and dont resort to fake news and race games. Its about laws not races. Obviously different cultures also. One where they run away from and another where they run to. Why protest the people that people go running to? That is dumb. You will just create an opposition to something that paper shufflers and suits will always end up dealing with. Its not like they are going to go down there give them a pad and a pen and tell them to draft a submission. They both dont really have a choice. The suit has do what he is told or he has no job and the protestors cant protest too much or someone else loses their freedom or right to satisfy the protestor. Its such a joke. Stacks of paid protestors then the people paying the protestors get pissed at him for foiling their effort to make him look bad. hahahaha next

before you all start defending this guy for deporting illegals.
he had NO idea whether or not they were illegal. He literally just saw Latinos and tried to deport them. Like random Latinos. how is that NOT racist
edit: not to mention that it’s entirely obviousl that their legal status is irrelevant in the first place, and that he tried to deport them because he didn’t like what they had to say.

What if they were shouting slogans, claiming to be illegal aliens?  Shouldn’t he take them at their word?  When people identify as “illegal aliens” shouldn’t we at least presume they mean what they say?
