" The Supreme Court's ruling on a prominent case entailing a church's day-care play ground surface areas will likely be utilized in church-state fights in the future, specialists believe. The decision, released on Monday, involving a church in Missouri was considereded as a triumph for lots of advocates and an impact to those that intended to see a high wall surface of splitting up in between church and also state.

The judgment has actually questioned over state financing of spiritual establishments' secular activity, especially just what it can suggest for school coupons. The court ruled 7-2 that spiritual organizations could not be excluded from state programs if they have a nonreligious intent, questioning over church-state splitting up without discriminating against those who are religious.

The specific church involved in the case, Trinity Lutheran Church in Missouri, wished to join a state program that compensates the cost of rubberizing play ground surface areas. The state, nonetheless, claimed Trinity Lutheran was not enabled to get involved." *.

the phrase separation of church and state the left always uses doesn’t exist in the United States Constitution or any of its founding documents

    • Posted by Ludwig Van, at Reply

Oh look, a bunch of experts on constitutional law.

    • Posted by Benjamin Garner, at Reply

Except it was coined by Thomas Jefferson and used by the founding fathers, in reference to the establishment clause and the free exercise clause of the first amendment to the constitution of this nation.

As a believer myself, i find this to be utter BS! most churches in America are run like our government! the pastor wants to get as much money as he can and screw over as many sheep as possible! Make churches pay taxes just like everyone else!

Nonsense, Listenbuddy1. What about needy people who don’t believe in god? Or believe in the wrong god? A charity should not hold your free sandwich or bowl of soup hostage until you accept Jesus/Yahweh/Allah as your savior.

Having churches as the sole form of charity in any given community or the whole country is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. Part of the reason this country was founded is because that stupid idea wasn’t working in Europe.

when I was into the christian religion all I saw was the disgusting amount of money the churches took in and the giant hypocrisy of their voting values and I asked them about the main tenants of christian theology and the specifics of their church most were like “what?” others were like I don’t believe that and I ask HOW are you a Christian than?

Their not, according to the actually christian worldview they would be wolves in sheeps clothing. It would be better if they gave that money away to those who needed it more, and keep what they actually needed.

correct me if i’m wrong but aren’t christian schools typically private schools? why cant they afford the rubberize parts for the playground themselves? they need to go to the government for help? public schools raise money all the time for certain projects this school cant do the same?

    • Posted by Ryan Casey, at Reply

Cameron Dale but if they are part of the private market place and they can’t afford something due to lack of profits then that’s just free market capitalism. if they fail in the market they fail, plain and simple.

    • Posted by lozman67, at Reply

If these churches learnt how to use rubber more effectively, they wouldn’t have to bang on about abortion all the time.

How much taxes does the church pay? Why should a church school get a benefit if it doesn’t pay taxes?

    • Posted by Tyrannosaurus Max, at Reply

Still nothing on Bernie being under FBI investigation, the travel ban being reinstated and the left seemingly losing ground everywhere?

    • Posted by Private Account, at Reply

The “FBI investigation” was requested by formal complaint from a Trump campaign organizer in Sanders’ state. It’s obviously politically motivated.

    • Posted by Deano Zumrap, at Reply

Mate, with Trumpcare, it’s everyone is losing, not just the left. Peace.

    • Posted by Martin Armenta, at Reply

Malaria Trump labour lost to Conservative, the left thinks they won because they lost by a smaller % but they still lost. Frances new president is not progressive at least economically, economically he’s very similar to republican economic ideology. The progressives are the weakest part in all nations. Lol

    • Posted by Private Account, at Reply

Trudeau is implementing the most progressive social policy that Canada has seen in years, Labour won a larger share of the vote than any losing group of Labour MPs have for over thirty years (as well as gaining more votes than any Labour campaign since Atlee’s), Macron CRUSHED LePen by a two-to-one margin of victory, and Trump’s approval remains the lowest of any president at this point in his term in recorded history. As a bonus, Bernie is still the most popular senator, and is the most popular 2020 contender.

So if you’re arguing that the far-right has defeated progressives, you’re mistaken on many levels.

Church wants access to tax money remove it’s tax exempt status

    • Posted by Cameron Dale, at Reply

psychoabattoirhorror church members still pay taxes that go to fund public schools, which their children will never reap the benefit of.

    • Posted by Lisa Lowery, at Reply

A church and it’s members are not one and the same. How is that so complicated? A churches members do not share the profits of the church, they are the churches profits. Say you go to a church and on sunday the donations come in at a total of $10,000. The church pays no taxes on the $10,000 and can do with it as it wishes with no interference from the government. Now you come to the government asking for a donation and the government says no because we already give you a hand out in the form of not taxing you. Every citizen pays taxes and those taxes are used in various ways to fund programs for everyone even if they never use them on an individual bases. The church has nothing to do with the public government and contributes nothing to the funding of the local government, but it’s members do. Even if a church was owned by it’s members the church organization is still tax exempt. But if any of that profit is passed to members then they must file taxes because it would then be personal income.

  17. Posted by Benjamin Jackson, at Reply

Churches dont pay taxes they should not get tax money. Start taxing churches

    • Posted by Zax Zumu, at Reply

Exactly. Benefits from the government are not free. Taxes are the price of admission into getting benefits (And also getting involved in politics).

    • Posted by david smith, at Reply

Cameron Dale yes the ppl in the church pay taxes but the ppl who run and own the church doesn’t have to pay taxes

its a playground for kids, get over it

    • Posted by James Chase, at Reply

once again i agree in principal, however this was a petty example. there were a million ways to prove the precedent, its not like this type of abuse of the system by organizations like this church are rare or new, and i just think that it could have been done without acting like jerks and complaining over children getting a safer park.

    • Posted by Craig Kennedy, at Reply

James Chase you are not understanding the situation. No one is complaining about the children receiving a safer playground. the complaints are against the precedent that allows a non-tax paying organization to receive taxpayer funds for any reason. this just opens the door. get ready for the door to be permanently opened

    • Posted by James Chase, at Reply

the door is already wide open which is my point which clearly you are not understanding if this was the first and most important instance, the “door opening” instance, I would not have said anything, however, there are plenty of other far greater abuses of tax law and have been for years. this is just a petty video. I love tyt, I have and will continue to subscribe to them for a long time. but that does not mean that they are always correct . this is not a fox news comment section I was under the impression that different opinions were allowed here. and my opinion is that this one video was a petty, unimportant video if you disagree that is your right.

    • Posted by James Chase, at Reply

and so far for me expressing one contrary opinion I have been accused of Islamophobia somehow, and told that I simply “don’t understand the situation”. I am a liberal, but I honestly believe that sometimes its not the law or the violation of the law that matters, but more the fact that it is a religion breaking it. don’t get me wrong the churches do plenty wrong, but every single thing they do is not inherently evil or malicious . and before someone accuses me no I don’t think they are victimized christians are far from oppressed, but there is a militancy in some sections of secular society that tends to tar anything to do with religion with the same brush. and in this i see some kids getting a safer playground, and a bunch of adults complaining about it.
