I dislike TYT because there’s too much “humor”, too much opinion, and not enough intellectual fact driven discussion. I like progressive outlets that make their case with with strong arguments and not summarized Reddit & CNN stories + constantly screaming “OF COUUURSEE!!!!!”

Literally designed to entertain <18 year olds

    • Posted by mud cat, at Reply

Ya, he is an entertainer. I want to learn, not be entertained with this crap. Their show is designed to appeal to younger kids.

    • Posted by jarjon76, at Reply

mud cat Yes TYT is the only news outlet I watch. I ditched MSM long ago. I have no use for them. There’s no reason to watch Fox News. Been there done that and they’re still doing the same bits from 20 years ago.

Jonathan Austin If you actually watch his often 1-2 hour long interviews, it’s some of the most though provoking discussion I think I’ve ever seen. I changed my mind on him when I stopped listening to other people and thought I’d go find out for myself

Aesithair Runekafi I don’t get it, even Cenk has corporate backers…

    • Posted by MRAROCKERDUDE, at Reply

Aaron Bower Yep, he had a multimillion dollar investment from one investor in his company not that long ago. Look at that, he’s relying on the rich to grow his company. “Trickle down!” He would scream. He’s a hypocrite

    • Posted by Aaron Bower, at Reply

MRAROCKERDUDE yeah, I know. $20,000,000 stake in TYT. Which is why Cenk now sells “memberships”, ad revenue isn’t justifying the initial capital venture.

I saw the Ben Shapiro debate and don’t see how righties think he housed Cenk. Debating is an art and skill in and of itself so even if you say Shapiro “performed” better that doesn’t mean the facts are on his side.

    • Posted by David Davies, at Reply

Game On – No. Conservatives don’t understand economics particularly well. That’s why it’s often the case that the US economy tanks or stagnates under Republicans. It’s beginning to show signs of happening now under Trump. Shapiro couldn’t debate his way out of a paper bag. He barely debated healthcare as it was clear he knew nothing about universal healthcare and was more interested in what his wife, a doctor, would earn than in actually debating on fact. The problem is that if facts are not on your side, all you have left to debate with is rhetoric. I guess you and Listenbuddy prefer rhetoric to facts.

    • Posted by Mario Quade, at Reply

I’ve actually read a lot of conservatives writting things like “Cenk might be dumb as dirt but he destroyed Shapiro in that debate”. So not hope seems to be lost with these guys.

I love how David Pakman is an adjunct professor in economics and he is as lefty as TYT, secular talk, majority report, etc. All those who I see praised by the right wing seem to have concentrated in other fields like Stephen Molyneux in history, Jordan Peterson/Sam Harris are psychologists, Ben Shapiro is a lawyer, Charlie Kirk doesn’t have a degree, etc. I am not saying degrees are absolutely indicative of understanding a topic, but whenever I hear “Liberals don’t understand economics” this is where my mind goes.

  6. Posted by Centrist Report, at Reply

U didn’t get destroyed too bad by Shapiro, but you did insult the audience.

    • Posted by Aaron Bower, at Reply

Well, you can’t show up to debate someone and then use the phrase “Google it”…I mean that is something our current president would do, which serves as a reminder to watch TYT as a news “source” that is supplemental to what is already known…

In other words you will never here the phrase, “In a story that was first uncovered by The Young Turks…”

    • Posted by Aaron Wantuck, at Reply

+Centrist Shapiro in my opinion lost. Badly. Many people do not actually break down what Shapiro says. He talks super fast often contradicting and making a hypocrite out of himself. Unfortunately for Ben, I have this great thing called a pause and rewind button when I listen to him. So I can actually pause, think about what he just said, process it and move on to the next point.

In that debate Ben Shapiro is being intellectually dishonest when Ben makes the point that Money is speech and then says that people contribute differently in different ways. For example the corporation makes a large political donation, Cenk talks about a candidate in a positive of negative way on his station, and some person may donate their time to a candidate by answering phones.

The problem is Ben is wrong. Cenk may be able to share his opinion but it does not have any voting power when it comes to laws. Think about this a second. A senator is likely to vote a particular way on a bill regardless of what the people want simply becasue a large corporation paid them to where as TYT is not paying the senator so they can care less what they think.

In short Ben did not understand the difference between a business loan and a political bribe but yet argued that they are the same. Ben also made the argument, the more money you have the more votes you get. This is not how a democratic/constitutional republic works and if you think so well I suggest you read the Constitution.

Ben’s point had a serious flaw in it.

      +Aaron Bower

Um you are wrong. They actually have TYT investigators now and they have segments all the time with news that they uncovered. The phrase “google it” can be used. What was Cenk supposed to do when the crowed booed at a fact he spoke of. Pull out the actual stats and show you? There is not enough time to do so.

    • Posted by Aaron Bower, at Reply

Aaron Wantuck remember, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

Take a debate class, nothing actually stops you from saying “Google it” at the podium, you just get zero respect…you aren’t debating the audience is the next lesson in a debate class…this isn’t the WWE, they are just there…facts are just that, facts. If people boo facts, then you were never going to win the audience to begin with…and as said earlier, you aren’t there to do that.

John M They tolerate and promote right wing lunatics and shills while the misrepresent the left. They are paid by the likes of the Koch brothers to spread misinformation and make radical right wing ideas seem main stream. They are not tolerant and when you have the misrepresent those you oppose you have no point.

TYT does a lot of really great reporting. So glad to hear your message is reaching people who consider themselves to be conservatives!

    • Posted by Aaron Bower, at Reply

TYT does many things… however reporting isn’t one of them.

Reporting on something is when a correspodent goes somewhere, asks some questions pertaining to a story, REPORT WHAT WAS SAID and then do what is needed on the next step, like reach someone for a comment to confirm or deny other further investigate the matter…TYT doesn’t do that.

If you are a progressive they deliver a message that is agreeable and serves an agenda, which is fine, nothing wrong with that in 2018.

But you can’t look at the HuffPost, reiterate what they wrote and call it “reporting”.

This is a show that does all it can to LOOK like a news set.

I know Cenk claims TYT is the biggest independent news organization out there. While sure they have the numbers. Approximately 3,621,967subs as of this comment. But they really only get 100-200k views per video. But I’ve been watching for a while, but Cenk needs to stop patting himself on the back as people like Ben Shapiro, Milo and Steven Crowder just nail TYT. Also they need to stop with the constant race baiting titles. I used to really like this network in 2014 and 2015 but it’s just been downhill since.

I have to admit, I grew up in a very conservative household, and in a very republican area of Northern California. I went through my teenage years and early twenties just thinking a certain way because that’s what I had grown with and was used to, and in many issues I leaned more toward the middle, but I almost didn’t want to hear the other side. I then started listening to more ideas that weren’t my own, I got more involved in keeping up with current issues, and I realized I never was a Republican or conservative. It’s very interesting the mindset that we all have and how some of us will defend an ideology not because we believe it, but because we were born into it. I think we are not of a political affiliation until we start to ask ourselves why we believe and unfortunately too many people, including myself at a time, don’t ask ourselves those questions.

You just stated the reason why most people are in religion today also. They were born into it, thus feel a connection to it, and in many cases do not want to expand their mind.

  15. Posted by Zach Harns, at Reply

Just have to say. I was born into a conservative family and was very conservative for awhile, but then I saw that Will Wheaton was doing an interview on TYT interview and decided to watch it because I love watching Table Top. Anyways I was watching Cenk and Will talk about politics and my conservative blood started to boil until I heard Will say this, “Do conservatives just hate America of something?” That made me stop right in my tracks. I had previously been taught to believe that all liberals hated America (including the President, who was Obama at the time) and it really threw me for a loop. In my mind at the time I couldn’t fathom how someone on the left could think that I, a conservative, could possibly hate America because I was taught that “we” love America and “they” hate America. To make a incredibly long story short 4 years later I am a Progressive and it was all thanks to TYT making me think for myself and not just listening to the propaganda I had been taught to believe my entire life.

Zach Harns … after reading your comment and many likes yours, immediately the thought of *tribalism* comes to mind.

People, groups and organizations will take extreme measures to protect the so called tribe for a number of reasons, and I’m not sure if those traits are passed down from past generations for survival reasons, but today, it’s being used against us.

We’re being manipulated to hate each other, and the wealthy are greatly benefiting off of our divide of hate. Because if we’re blinded by our tribal hate for each other, we’ll fight each other, and we won’t be fighting against those who are actually harming us. The 1%.

      *Divide and Conquer*

I’m one of those former conservatives. I used to surf for news between MSNBC, and CNN, and FoxNews. I always ended up on FoxNews because the other two stations would completely ignore stories and FoxNews would give their spin and that was the only point of view I’d get on a lot of stuff. Then I discovered YouTube and TYT crept into my recommendations. I’d watch those. One by one with each video I woke up. Cenk did that for me. I don’t watch cable news anymore. I’m done with those assholes.
