Taylor Swift Finds New Way To Exploit Fans

Taylor Swift's brand-new ticket plan injures her fans. Brett Erlich, Grace Baldridge, and also Amberia Allen, the hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Inform us what you think in the comment area listed below.

" For the past few years, pop musicians have actually used a loophole in order to amass more cd sales. Individuals like Katy Perry, The Chainsmokers, and even Madonna have actually done something referred to as packing, in which people that purchase tickets for an excursion can likewise get a copy of the album along with their purchase. Due to this, ticket sales then equivalent album sales– even if fans did not head out and actually get said album– therefore boosting over all cd sales.

But Taylor Swift, it appears, has a completely new technique boost her album sales. She's partnering with Ticketmaster for a promo known as "Taylor Swift Tix." It's framed as a way for followers to "defeat the robots" that scalpers make use of to mass-purchase tickets and raise resale prices, and also requires you to register on her website to get accessibility to tickets.

From there you pick your recommended city, and afterwards get to pick different opportunities to "boost" your area in line to acquire Taylor Swift concert tickets."

Florence Gbenro If you were listening, she didn’t say she didn’t like Taylor Swift despite being a black woman. She said she didn’t like Taylor Swift BECAUSE she’s a black woman. Confirmation stands.

    • Posted by Florence Gbenro, at Reply

Buddy Van Cigrit no it does not. His comment was a blanket statement regarding all black people. She is still an individual person who is slightly illogical. Her skin color does not dictate that she should not like TS nor does it dictate it for most other black people. For example, I’m Nigerian (West African) and if I were to play her my old school Yoruba songs, she would “probably” not like it. Though others would claim that BECAUSE she is black, she should like it. When that is completely unreasonable.

  4. Posted by HaeravonFAQs, at Reply

“I’m black. Of course I don’t listen to a white singer.”

I’m sure this totally wouldn’t be racist if you reversed it.

    • Posted by KitchMurder, at Reply

But is it reversed? Oh no…it’s not…live in reality no a fictional world.

    • Posted by Beerus Sama, at Reply

    • Posted by X-man, at Reply

Brittany Pipoli That sounds stupid. Most blacks who vote Republican do so for economic reasons. Using their race as an indicator of who they should vote for is ridiculous.

  5. Posted by Joe E, at Reply

TYT can’t stand talyor swift because she’s a white christian and has a large following of country music fans, mostly republicans. That’s why they keep making nonsensical videos about her 😂

  6. Posted by Hezekiah Ramirez, at Reply

I can’t figure out if these comments are more funny or sad. These celebrities you worship are not loyal to you. You’re their customers. They’re selling you a product, that’s it. You have no obligation to defend them and they’re all doing just fine without you. Criticizing some millionaire who makes money off of you is not a personal attack on you. There’s no reason to be defensive. Your loyalty makes no difference. Your dollars do.

    • Posted by musicmaster101, at Reply

Hezekiah Ramirez actually no not true- they care and you are wrong, from personal experience with many I managed as well as working in the field my whole life. Take a hike

    • Posted by musicmaster101, at Reply

Oh and “The doors” tells it all. Your mindset that is

    • Posted by Hezekiah Ramirez, at Reply

Nah, I’m not much of a hiker. What does the fact that I use Jim Morrison as my avatar say about my mindset? What does that even mean?

    • Posted by nicholas dalli, at Reply

musicmaster101 u are describing the facade celebs put on for their manipulative gain

    • Posted by Hezekiah Ramirez, at Reply

I want everyone to pay attention to the replies by “musicmaster101.” This person has just admitted they have a financial stake in preserving this dynamic. Once again, these millionaire celebrities are not your friends. They’re selling you a product. Pay attention to how offended this person seems. That’s because they lose money if you don’t perceive people like Taylor Swift as somehow caring about you personally. Like I said before, it’s about your dollars.

  7. Posted by Fred Loza, at Reply

All those things are great for people who want to go to her concerts. It may sound bad, but how do you differentiate bots from people who are actual fans. This is actually brilliant.

She is trying to find a way to fight the “exclusivity” you speak of. Because when bots buy the tickets and you can’t get one. Only rich people can buy them from resellers. So now she is giving value to people who buy into everything else she does. I usually agree with TYT but this is exactly the OPPOSITE of rewarding the “rich kids.”

This feels like they put this segment together 5 minutes before they taped.

Full disclosure: I don’t listen to her music.

    • Posted by Eric S Fisher, at Reply

I do think it is a capitalistic way to reward the tickets personally. Rich kids will mostly win imo.

    • Posted by Fred Loza, at Reply

Lets ask the fans. I think they will love the idea. Until we see exactly how difficult it is for a fan to gaurantee tickets for a reasonable price compared to the current existing ticketmaster system we can’t know. However from what I have seen about Taylor Swift, she doesn’t strike me as a person that would not have thought this through or a person that would take advantage of her fans in an unfair way.

    • Posted by Fan gurl, at Reply

I agree about lets wait and see. I will give her the benefit of the doubt. But I disagree about taking advantage of her fans. Remember her removing her music from Spotify and other music streaming subscription sites because she wanted her fans to buy her music and said she is doing this to help other less popular artist. Which is a great thing. But then when her most recent album got a year old and less people started buying she stuff she put all her music back on Spotify and sites similar to it. That move is what made me realize maybe she isn’t really being honest with her intentions. I used to be a fan of hers. But not am anymore, although I still enjoy her music. I just hope she is doing it for the right reasons and not for monetary reasons.

    • Posted by Fred Loza, at Reply

I don’t see how they could reward tickets any other way. Unless you want to provide your parents tax returns for the last 3 years and yours if you are no longer a dependant. Than they have to somehow check that information. BUT who on earth would do anything like that?

People with money will always have an advantage in every system that exist.

    • Posted by Fan gurl, at Reply

In the video mentioned Ed Sheeren do a similar thing but with less focus on purchasing of his products. Maybe they should’ve done it like that. Since they didn’t maybe Taylor’s team should’ve found MORE cheaper/free options to get these points. But then again it is a business so I can see why they designed it the way they did. And like you said people with money will always have the upper hand. In the end money what important in that industry and some aspects of life.

  8. Posted by Julie Frandsen, at Reply

Taylor Swift’s demographic is 18-34 year olds. Not young teens. Seeing as most of them are adults, if they buy into it, that’s their own prerogative. And Taylor Swift is a business. Of course she’s trying to make money. If anyone thinks otherwise, then that’s their problem.

    • Posted by Janet Mcwilliams, at Reply

This is basically a rewards program for anything Taylor Swift. It’s business, shrewd business, which takes cash from people that probably already spend a lot on merch anyway. This also encourages people that already share a lot to share more. This is no more shady than a grocery rewards program keeping your buying history, or a free ticket contest, and this might be standard practice in the future.
