Regardless of how you feel about it ObamaCare (despite its problems) has helped more people then were hurt by it/our uninsured rate is the lowest its ever been, that said we still have a long way to go in order to take care of every sick person in this country.
If the rest of the Developed World (Canada, Western Europe, Japan/South Korea, and Australia/New Zealand) can grant Single-Payer/healthcare for everyone, then why can’t we do the same with Medicare/Social Security, especially if it costs taxpayers/our government less than it does now in the long-run?
And if American citizens die from lacking access to affordable health insurance because the Republicans believe that the government shouldn’t provide it then we are failing our country’s promise of defending life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for its citizens (The Declaration of Independence) or promoting the general welfare of all the people (The Constitution).

Why do you libtards always write “then” instead of “than”? Get an education.

    • Posted by Pro Libertate, at Reply

Jesse Torres it’s not the American government that pays for it. It’s the American people who are coerced into paying for it by the government…

*Obamacare’ rates were meant to rise 40% nowadays before Trump ever took office.* This a ransom scheme that Koch brothers researchers have come up with and Obama has implemented. The number of medical bankruptcies is through the roof.

Because the thousands of dollars a year she would pay in taxes to support entitlement programs wouldn’t be harder on her than a 130 dollar copay…??

    • Posted by Bill Anderson, at Reply

There are families paying around 15 thousand a year on healthcare. Would you rather pay 2000 in taxes to the government or 15000 in taxes to corporations?

      Universal healthcare net saves money.

And this US system is superior in what way? I’d argue a system in which everyone gets healthcare and no one dies due to financial constraints would be a superior system. I guess I’m just a craaaaazzzzzyyyy lefty for thinking that.

    • Posted by Katilyn Whitson, at Reply

This point is moot because many countries with socialist healthcare don’t provide access to this drug because of its price tag compared to its effectiveness. Tricare does this as well and will refer you to a private doctor if you still want it. If the US had socialist healthcare, this woman probably still would have died because 1) the drug isn’t as effective as this story spins it to be 2) socialistic healthcare usually does not provide access to antiviral drugs as they are excessively expensive without being effective.

People die in other countries due to short comings as well in their healthcare systems.

    • Posted by Thomas Wolfe, at Reply

      @Katilyn Whitson
Not really sure where you got the part about no access to the drugs because of a price tag? Can you back that up with some kind of a source? I’m asking because I live in the EU, in a country with, as you’ve put it, “socialist healthcare” and not only are these drugs available all over the place, but there’s no charge for them. In fact, I’ve never heard of any medication being made unavailable because of its price (your post actually prompted me to go check). More to the point, because of my own health, I would need to pay around 1500$ each month to, literally, stay alive. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s all free for me, that is.
So, which countries are you talking about?

    • Posted by Optimus Fine, at Reply

whyamimrpink78 : How so? Ive never head of anyone dying in Canada because someone couldn’t afford care or wasn’t provided care. Wait times for elective non-life-threatening surgeries, sure. Dying from being denied a crucial surgery, no.

Can one of my American neighbors tell me why so many of your fellow countrymen are so arrogant or stupid that they think America was it right when it comes to healthcare while my country of Canada and every other country in the world that has universal healthcare has it wrong even though there’s been tons of studies done to prove otherwise?

    • Posted by diaz eka, at Reply

cne08 some American don’t believe in research or scientist. If facts can not help them change their mind than we’re as helpless as you. They rather believe in their own theory and opinion or so called “conspiracy” that universal healthcare will bankrupt the nation while the real conspiracy is the insurance company and the farma industry jack up the price of healthcare for profit. That is the fact and therefore unimportant.

How about if a hammer falls on my head at a construction site and kills me? Should the government have bought me a helmet, then instituted a law saying I had to wear it at all times, or I could be fined?

    • Posted by Crotchet, at Reply

It’s pretty simple lone star; The population should have access to a healthcare system that doesn’t take their house, their businesses, throw them out on the street and bankrupt them or as in this case, kill them because they can’t afford the treatment. Government’s job is to protect it’s population from enemies outside the country and within the country. The insurance companies are literally letting people die to protect it’s shareholder profits. Your comparrisons are stupid

    • Posted by Fredrik Herre, at Reply

      Lone Star Patrior
But is the lack of a car really the reason you got hit by a bus? Nope. It doesn’t follow that because you don’t have a car, you got hit by a bus. The government did actually try to protect you by building SIDEWALKS for you to walk on, and ROADS/LANES for the bus to drive on. The government also required the bus driver to practice enough to get a drivers license to be allowed to drive a bus. If you decide you want to walk on the road, that’s not on the government. That’s your own stupidity.

damn, such a tragedy. I got sick myself recently in the end of January, symptoms weren’t going away so I went to the doctors, they prescribed me some antibiotic medication that cost R$145.00 at the pharmacy. I felt it was too much money, so I went to the government facility instead. Had to wait almost an hour and a half, but I got the medication, for free. I feel terrible for this woman. I live in a third world country, she lived in a first world country, I’m here typing this, I’m alive and she’s dead… something wrong in the US…
