" Since the 1920s, companies looking for to develop pipes via national forests have actually had to get approval from Congress– but a solitary arrangement in the Trump management's recommended framework plan can totally overthrow that status quo.

Inning accordance with a dripped draft of the framework strategy obtained by the Washington Article, the administration is taking into consideration proposing changes to the approval procedure for gas pipes that go across National forest Service possessed land. The modification would just require authorization from the secretary of the inside– an action that environmental and preservation teams ridiculed as a free gift to the oil as well as gas industry at the cost of public lands.

" There is a reason why these pipelines require Congressional action– we've seen pipes leak over and also over once again. National forest are where individuals go and also spend their time, as well as if you have a leak, it could be hazardous to the environment as well as individuals seeing," Raul Garcia, elderly legal guidance with Earthjustice, informed ThinkProgress. "This isn't substantive and well thought-out. It's just one more political support for a market that is well-positioned within the administration."

Past spills, nonetheless, opponents stress that the building associated with pipes– which calls for companies to basically specific swaths of arrive at either side of the proposed framework– would essentially transform the landscape of some of the nation's most treasured natural locations."

Oh, so regulations that keep us from getting poisoned and/or killed slow down a permit approval progress because they have to do environmental studies first? What a horrible and costly waste of time!

    • Posted by Optimus Fine, at Reply

hellcat1988 Naw, making the rich and powerful more money is more important than the health and well-being of citizens and the environment
      – Trump and his supporters

  2. Posted by Augustus Johnston, at Reply

He said, โ€œwe need to start using beautiful clean coal again.โ€ LOL.

  3. Posted by Optimus Fine, at Reply

Can we stop calling them “regulations” and start calling them “protections”? Because thats what they do: protect consumers, citizens, the vulnerable, and the environment

    • Posted by Optimus Fine, at Reply

James P Sure, get rid of useless or redundant regulations. But Trumps looking to make his donors more money by getting rid of protections that protect consumers from bank fraud, protect the environment from industrial polluters, protect land owners from losing their land to pipelines, etc. Sure a few committees may make an extra buck or two, but its the banks and corporations that are going to reap 100s of millions of dollars by getting rid of protections

The reason it had to be approved by Congress is that it belongs to The People (remember them?) so the representatives of the people were the stewards, and responsible to the people. Handing it to a cabinet member is saying the lands belong to the donors, not the people.

    • Posted by Angie Norton, at Reply

Silkendrum I agree with you to an extent. Our politicians (the vast majority) work for their donors too.

    • Posted by Silkendrum, at Reply

Except that when we yell at our representatives, they at least pretend to hear us. Cabinet members don’t even pretend to hear us.

Trump tried to buy the Empire State Building, he formed a consortium with an imprisoned Japanese hotelier, bought the land under it, then tried to evict the operators of the building, and set off a series of damaging lawsuits and used many tactics to make life hard for the tenants who worked there. He sold the land about ten years later to the trust that owned the tower, without making much money off it because of all the lawsuits and the deliberate attempts at making the building less profitable
