I am honestly heartened by all the furor over this assault and the dehumanizing way we’ve seen the Airline react. If things are going to change, we need to see a lawsuit and not let up in social media with pressure on these airlines. Things don’t change because garbage companies like most of these airlines are know they can just wait for the storm to blow over and they get back to business as usual.

Here in Canada, Trudeau’s government , said they will make a “chart” or ” rights” of the passenger. Hope will do it soon.

+Jeff Ramos Well, Trudeau stands as one of those few politicians in the world to be admired for intelligence, character, and policy … so I imagine you won’t have to wait too long. 🙂

I guess united isn’t so united after all! time for a boycott!

    • Posted by Jamie Cox, at Reply

so basically the CEO is saying that because the way the doctor was treated falls within protocol, that it somehow makes it ok to treat a paying customer like sh*t and the assault was justified! kinda like how cops beat the sh*t out of us and the beatings are considered “justified”? I see

    • Posted by Spliffer45, at Reply

How he was treated by United Employees was within protocol… The people who removed the man from the plane were not United Employees, thus are not covered under this statement.

  7. Posted by Melissa Castillo, at Reply

This is my point…. Employees fly for free….. The general public pays for the seat…… Who should be held on a higher priority??? The person who pays to fly or the person who flies for free……

I’ll gladly take the bus when i come back to the US…. If that day ever comes…..

    • Posted by Melissa Castillo, at Reply

ERAUPRCWA they may be deadheaded……. But i know at least one person who worked for both delta and united and in both companies these friends always flew for free for both work and pleasure…….. Great example…. My best friends exhusband would take his girlfriend (the woman he cheated with) whom he worked with to Paris and many other places for free because they worked for the airlines…. So yes necessarily the fly for free…..

If the United employees were properly following protocol, and this happened, then the protocol needs to change.

    • Posted by Eay Dagawd, at Reply

      Nazi protocol

    • Posted by Closeoutracer, at Reply

Nothing needs to change. If I call the Police because you are on my land and refuse to leave … they are taking you off my land/trespassing. If United calls the Police and wants a passenger removed .. they are taking him off the plane/basic property rights.. Doctor/Einstein had the option, with 3 Airport Policemen standing beside his seat, of walking off that plane. He chose to be forcibly removed and screamed like a schoolgirl. Doctor of home/made enemas perhaps?

    • Posted by John Cubar, at Reply

Paul T Sjordal I totally agree with you but you don’t have to beat them to get them off

The REAL problem we have in society is the ridiculous power we give law enforcement as well as Corporations.
Police can brutalize unarmed people who don’t pose any threat to anyone, and Corporations are allowed to contract police to brutalize anyone who gets in their way.
We also saw this with the Dakota Access pipeline atrocities committed against Native Americans. Law Enforcement officials who are SUPPOSED to protect citizens end up ATTACKING protesters at the behest of a corporation.
Corporations are also embarrassingly out of touch, as we’ve seen with United and Pepsi. They apologize for the WRONG reasons, and to the WRONG people, while the police who work WITH these corporations get to walk around freely without facing any consequences.

    • Posted by welshgit, at Reply

dcaseng Whilst I found this shocking, I was more shocked by the non-trolling commentators who basically said he deserved it for not obeying a cop. These same people justify police murders when the victim dares run from a cop. Even when unarmed and not a danger, the cops would rather execute than exercise off all that doughnut fat they carry around.

You nailed it regarding this case, and the Dakota case and others, but when there are many people who think it’s ok that cops are judge, jury, and executioner, it makes it a much bigger problem to solve. As you say, the cops are meant to serve and protect citizens – they are not the gods they seem to think they are.

Seriously, remember all those futuristic sci-fi movies from way back, like Robocop, and many others… I never thought the day would actually come where it’s a complete police state, where the police bully and intimidate people on the instruction of their bosses – the corporations. The future is here.

kiwicant LOL that you think United serves meals on domestic flights. Probably didn’t even have drink service.

    • Posted by Reflex, at Reply

All airlines do it. 99% of the time you just never hear about it because people take the volunteer money. Their decision was either 4 people made on this plane, or having maybe 100 people mad if they had the cancel the other flight because of no crew. It was a bad situation for all. I feel bad for the flight attendants who have to just follow orders.

    • Posted by Daniel Dennison, at Reply

If nobody takes the volunteer money, than the policy isnt working and it needs to be increased

    • Posted by István Mága, at Reply

      united employees were stupid.
They allow everyone to board the plane and then, they realise they need to fly 4 more passengers. How stupid is that?

OMG WTF… you think your food industry is over regulated… best joke I’ve heard for years. The US basically has no Food Standards regulations in comparison to the EU/UK. You allow inhumane meat production methods which violate the most basic animal welfare standards! You allow pesticides and chemicals which are harmful to humans to be used in food production poisoning your population! You even allow produce is shops to be mislabeled misleading the end consumer about what they are actually eating…

    • Posted by Jung Raphael, at Reply

David B so you’re fine with animals killed against their will, have their offspring taken away and used as a food product against their will etc, as long as you ‘treat them well’.

I don’t see how it helps animals. It sure does inflate your ego I guess, thinking all high and mighty about you being kind to animals by providing ‘merciful deaths’.

I wonder how slave owners thought about their slaves. Sure they thought they were humane too.

    • Posted by Eric Weiss, at Reply

I have dealt with food regulations.  What you are saying is completely wrong.  The US has very stringent food regulations.

    • Posted by David B, at Reply

+Jung Raphael Based on the standards of the day they would have, a slave was expensive to have to replace! But we’re not talking historically and you can’t use today’s morals and ethics to judge history. Also I never said I was ok or not ok with killing animals for food… what I said was compared to the EU/UK the US leaves a lot to be desired…

+Eric Weiss stringent! Just google the enormous list of harmful chemicals which the US let’s it’s people consume and the UK has banned! Also just look at the salmonella poisoning stats from your eggs… you don’t even vaccinate your hens which is why the US has a case of egg related salmonella for 1 person in every 2200 people and the UK it’s 1 in every 95,000!

    • Posted by rockyea85, at Reply

Screw animal welfare. Have you ever seen how vicious it is when a hyena takes down its prey? I do care about pesticides and chemicals bc of their effects on HUMANS.

    • Posted by David B, at Reply

+rockyea85 If you only care about the affect on humans then have a think about its affect on food safety or the quality of the meat you eat! For example – rough handling of dairy cows lessens the flow of milk and can also increase the microbial count in the milk. Stresses and chronic pain suffered increase cortisol levels and reduce the animal’s immune function. Infections, laminitis, lesions, mastitis and other bacterially related illnesses in the animal will mean that the food you eat is more likely to be contaminated with human effecting bacteria like Salmonella, Campylobacter and E. coli. Bruising is a big issue to, nervous animals are more likely to run, slip, fall or bang into gates/doors etc. Rough handling during transport also cause bruising. In the UK we have a regulatory requirement to remove bruises from meat because of hemorrhages. Internal bruising can reduce the shelf life of meat due to the higher pH of the blood. Over use of antibiotics and pumping them with steroids has generates super-bugs which are immune to antibiotics like MRSA. This has a knock on affect on the human health care system, when Doctors can no longer cure our illnesses with antibiotics.

The animal’s welfare has a massive effect the quality of you food, check out this website for a some more facts on why animal welfare is so important on food safety… http://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/magazine-archive1/februarymarch-2009/does-animal-welfare-affect-food-safety/
