" For the last couple of years, Jessica Chastain has been just one of the most singing critics of Hollywood's gaping sex pay space. She was just one of the very first celebrities to rally for Michelle Williams after it was revealed that Williams had made a portion of Mark Wahlberg's income for All the cash in the World. And inning accordance with Oscar-winning starlet Octavia Spencer, she's likewise working behind the scenes to fight for parity. Spencer and Chastain, who first interacted on 2011's The Help and also have actually remained friends, are readied to make a friend vacation comedy together. Throughout a current Sundance TV panel, Spencer exposed that Chastain, who is generating the film, helped Spencer to earn 5 times her regular salary– in a story you could enjoy above at the 19-minute mark.

" I enjoy that woman, due to the fact that she's strolling the walk as well as she's actually talking the talk," Spencer stated.

She started by explaining how the movie was birthed last March, when Chastain concerned her with an idea for the funny. Their discussion ultimately wandered toward pay equity." *.

Great, a millionaire gets to be more of a millionaire.

    • Posted by Caitie Regan, at Reply

David Espinoza but when this becomes a story, then pay gap disparity between white women and women of color becomes a topic of conversation.

    • Posted by Demonicpoo, at Reply

David Espinoza Movies make a lot of money. That’s why there’s an industry around it. If the actors are paid less, the studio executives are the millionaires who will become wealthier. Shouldn’t everyone involved get their fair share? The money has to go somewhere, and without the actors there is no movie. Maybe there are people who think that everyone involved should produce the movie on minimum wage, cover the cost of the movie, and give the rest to charity. What would you suggest they do?

Negotiated salaries are PURE bargaining power fights. We should get away from the whole idea that our pay is actually linked to productivity and that some people ‘deserve’ less. Productivity is a SYSTEM level measurement, individuals produce labor of various skill levels and the business turns that into productivity. This is how we have CEO that make ludicrous multipliers of their workers pay while the rest of the world gets by on fractions of that.

Octavia is just working that liberal white guilt to get a raise. Very clever!

    • Posted by Ian Ford, at Reply

Maybe Octavia beat out Jessica for an Oscar. It’s not as though we are talking about a movie extra pay vs a superstar pay. She’s an Oscar winning actress. Pay should not be based merely on a popularity contest.

    • Posted by Denis Shillingford, at Reply

Maybe 🎥 👀nothing but typical white racist propaganda and ain’t no MAYBE about it.

    • Posted by Gay Bottom Pride, at Reply

Ian Ford as someone who is industry I can tell you that in Hollywood it’s not about who is the most talented but who is the most popular. Hollywood actually reminds me a lot about high school. Just look at Dwayne Johnson. He right know if the highest paid actor in Hollywood, yet he couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag.

Pay these women fairly and black women fairly. Let’s not act like women haven’t been holding it down in not just entertainment but across the board since long before I was born.

    • Posted by AR Rains, at Reply

What is fair? Should Tom Hanks be paid the same as his co-star, even if they are significantly less of a box office draw than Hanks is? There’s no such thing as parity here, you make the studios money, and you get rewarded commensurate to it.

    • Posted by Moist Gnome, at Reply

chuckk dees you’re being sarcastic I hope.

    • Posted by chuckk dees, at Reply

    • Posted by Dragon1717, at Reply

White privilege is black code speak for success envy. Just sayin’

    • Posted by chuckk dees, at Reply

So, why is it that all people of color all have some kind of stereotypes tied to them that are actually used against them on serious issues , Why do white people get mostly get less time for same crime or even gets to use the insanity plea in cases where it wouldn’t even dare care come in question for a person of color… why are People of color automatically expected to be ok with settling for less in any case that involves any kind of settlement or anything else dealing with money especially in insurance claims , Why is it even a requirement to put your race on job applications or why do most companies have policies against employees discussing wages … the list goes on and on …. But I’m pretty sure you already know that …me thinks you saying ,” White privilege is black code speak for success envy”…. People like you code speak for OMG how am I or my kids , family and friends ever going to live without our WHITE PRIVILEGE …. BTW I’m not black …..but that just you trying to deflect using yet another stereotype nice try kid better luck next time

what happen to proving your worth as an actor/actress, and going for what you feel your worth?

Oh wait.. you’re black & a women, you don’t need to prove yourself or your career, or pull in the numbers… you just need to call systematic oppression. and suddenly you deserve to be paid what the AAA list White male actors are paid, despite…. not pulling the requirements to earn that income to be paid.
    — Never mind you, that even the low end of that amount is so absurdly high for any person that you’d have to be throwing money down the drain or bleeding it to any stupid number of sources to feel the difference that it’s insane.

    • Posted by entertain7us14, at Reply

are you just a naive newborn baby? You really think women and men, and white people and black people are on a level playing field, and their hard work pays off equally?

Have you never opened your eyes in the really world your entire life???

    • Posted by Blob Loblaw, at Reply

Кремлинский бот That’s actually true… if you just look at the percentages of speaking roles in general. But that doesn’t say anything about the TYPES of role people get. That’s where the disparity is. There’s a huge difference between having a lead role and a small supporting role.

    • Posted by Listenbuddy1, at Reply

Shout “racism!” and you get whatever you want (unless you’re white).

    • Posted by KingCantona14, at Reply

because white people are not victims of racism in a country where almost all pillars of goverment, society, and so on makes being white not only the norm but the ideal.

Lol… this is exactly why women get paid less.
Men – “I want to be paid what I’m worth.”
Women – “Pay me less, please.”

That’s not what happened. Chastain received her normal pay. They just paid Spencer as much as Chastain (her worth); and that was 5 times what she’d been paid in the past.
