“Society says men are judged by their earning potential exclusively”. By society do you mean women?

    • Posted by Sandra Snow-Balvert, at Reply

How did I fail my point? Are you saying that trash collectors stay at home fathers or men that are in less desirable jobs aren’t ever married? This is mostly about you isn’t it. You can’t get a woman and you blame us for your failures. You are just like every single MRA I’ve ever encountered. You won’t ever look at your shortcomings and just blame women for the fact that you can’t get a woman. Do you have a mother or a sister or a niece?

    • Posted by Davy Crockett, at Reply

They are married no one is saying that they aren’t, The problem with your assertion earlier is that you spoke as though these men were just as desirable as the CEO or athlete. Which is not true. Instead of making the arguement, “I can’t get a women” as women normally do, come at me with some facts. “You are just like every single MRA I’ve ever encountered. You won’t ever look at your shortcomings and just blame women for the fact that you can’t get a woman”. o Im guessing you are a feminist, and so you blame men (patriarchy) for all of your problems. Dont have a sister, I do have a niece though, but what does that have to do with anything? Again an emotionally laden argument. You are clearly an idiot.

    • Posted by Sandra Snow-Balvert, at Reply

      +Davy Crockett
Do you even read these threads or do you just keep spouting off? When did I ever once say a garbage collector is more or less desirable than a ceo? What I’ve been arguing about this whole time is that a man that is a garbage collector or a nurse is looked down upon by his peers for his earning potential and since you agreed that yes they probably have gf’s or wives that means women don’t really care about that. Women don’t discriminate because a man doesn’t have a great job but other men do.

Really? Do we have to explain it to you? Just think of it for a minute. Think hard hard and you might understand.

    • Posted by Matthew, at Reply

Not just the same field. Same company, same field, same seniority, same job title. And in that case, wages are the same. Well actually I did find a study that said there was a 2 cent gap, in favor of men.

    • Posted by AiguilleVoodoo, at Reply

Matthew: What study? I would have to look at it, but from what you said this does not take into discrimination. So actual expertise is not a control. There are multiple studies changing the sex of a CV and it’s showing women are less valued than men when entering the workplace, which means they get a less paying job than men. For the same qualifications, women gets placed in other job titles so controlling job title is missing the point

    • Posted by Matthew, at Reply

https://www.google.ca/#q=payscale+wage+gap Here is the study. My internet is bad right now so you might have to locate it. It’s an article by the company “Payscale”. I’ve heard of some of the studies you speak of. The problem is, Aiguille, those studies only examined a select few businesses. They didn’t examine a massive amount of businesses. That means that saying that widespread discrimination, in terms of businesses unfairly offering women lower paying jobs, is only a generalization. Therefore, it is still valid for me to say that women and men receive equal pay for equal work (well, men make 2 cents more on average). There is some inequality on this subject, but not much.

But… but… I thought there was a gender wage gap? Oh right… it’s ILLEGAL to pay women less than men…

    • Posted by Kyle Ruth, at Reply

Nero The Terrible Its actually not. An employer can only be held liable if salaries are disclosed. They can exploit any worker, including women, who objectively get paid less for the same work.

    • Posted by Kyle Ruth, at Reply

BlackmambaAllday axb The wage gap is absolutely real. For the same exact work, women get paid $0.91 for every $1.00 a man gets.

    • Posted by Chris Champagne, at Reply

I think you are confusing the issues of men earning more than women in the same job versus one partner in a marriage earning more than the other. In the later case there is nothing wrong with one person (regardless of sex) earning more of the money and the other person contributing more to household duties. That’s a perfectly okay partnership. But with the former case, it is clearly unfair for one person to earn less than another simply because of their sex. Also, the statistic at the beginning said 38% of married women make more than their husbands, which means that in 62% of marriages it’s still the men who earn more (I’m assuming gay couples were excluded from the study.)

  13. Posted by paramount cyclops, at Reply

It’s not the men that are complaining about it it’s the women were earning more that are complaining about it. welcome to equality ladies.

    • Posted by Kyle Ruth, at Reply

patphatcat Yep. Replacing a stay-at-home mother costs about $130,000 in the market. Women are often working two jobs today.

Hours worked, overtime, negotiated salary, time employed.
In order to make the wage gap argument work you need to intentionally leave out crucial details.

    • Posted by paramount cyclops, at Reply

+Kyle Ruth there is no wage gap. That’s been debunked so many times by scholars, mathematicians and the last three government studies. You can’t take the mean of all men and the mean of all women and say it’s factual. Think of it this way if women were paid less than men for the same job we would have thousands of discrimination lawsuits every year. Where you can look at it from the standpoint of Corporations could pay women less for the same work that men do no Corporation in the right mind would ever hire a man. Or you can look at from this standpoint it’s already it illegal to pay somebody for any reason that is discriminatory less than their counterparts. On average men work more hours in the week. Women choose jobs that are more emotionally rewarding. Surely you’re not suggesting we take away a woman’s choice to choose a lower-paying career in order to be more emotionally gratified. On the flip side males tend to take jobs that pay more but are emotionally taxing.

    • Posted by Fanatical Trekkie, at Reply

Matej Fele That’s what I did when I met my fiancé. He made more than me, but was (for some reason) paying all of his moms bills while she drank most of her own money. He was really uncomfortable with it at first, until I told him I didn’t mind because It meant I got to spend time with him. It annoys me to this day when I don’t see someone I know who just started dating someone offer to pay at least for their half of the bill. Its supposed to be a partnership.

    • Posted by Matej Fele, at Reply

Fanatical Trekkie Don’t get me wrong, I gladly pay for everything. It’s just the unwritten principle that the guy has to cover everything always. And I will always do it on a first date, but if she insists otherwise to an extreme, why not? After all, we’re all employed and receive a salary.
